On 1st February 2020, Bangkok’s Permanent Secretary Mrs. Silpasuay Raweesaengsoon, together with over 900 local volunteers, joined a campaign to clean up downtown Bangkok’s Pathumwan neighbourhood with the  intention to help combat the ongoing Wuhan Coronavirus.

As doctors have confirmed human-to-human transmission of the virus, the group of volunteers did their part to clean the public spaces in the neighbourhood. This involved handrails, mirrors, chairs, tables, and many more items that could be touched by people.

Mrs. Silpasuay also mentioned that Bangkok is currently on strict regulations to ensure the safety of members of the public. For example, public health officers are on duty, visiting schools to give educational lectures about the virus. This helps prevent the spread of misinformation as well.

Taxi and Grab drivers were also suggested to wear masks and also clean up their vehicle’s seats and doors so that it would be a sanitary environment for passengers.

Though many of the infected patients in Thailand have already recovered, we must still take active measures to protect ourselves in any way we can.

Wash your hands after activities and wear a mask in crowded spaces to do your part!
