Halloween is, needless to say, a special occasion for us to unwind and have fun at the end of October. We know many of you are also looking forward to partying on Halloween’s night with your buddies.
In our opinion, Bangkok is one of many vibrant cities with plenty of celebrations to participate in. That said, here are 8 spooky Bangkok cafes for an eventful Halloween night with your homies. We’ve included cafes with escape rooms, themed after an abandoned school, for you to indulge in thrilling experiences after sipping on coffee.

1. The Ghost House — cafe owned by a ghost radio showhost with a Thai shrine

Located in RCA Alley, The Ghost House is a famous cafe among ghost enthusiasts who love listening to ghost radio shows. As it turns out, this cafe actually belongs to the host of one such show and it’s truly not for the faint of heart.

We love that the cafe is decked out in a wide array of hyper-realistic props like a traditional spirit house and a Thai filth-eating spirit, creating an extremely creepy ambience for customers. But for those obsessed with the idea of ghostbusting, we’re sure you’ll definitely want to snap shots with these memorabilia.

Those with a sweet tooth, need to pack their guts as well for a lil’ extra courage, as dishes like this Honey Toast at ฿195 (~USD5) comprises an extra thicc slice of toast, two scoops of ice cream and sliced banana. Props to the eyeball-esque decor and skull-shaped chocolate for piling on the grotesque in a fun way. We’d suggest pairing this dessert with The Ghost Coffee, priced at ฿120 (~USD3). Expect a decadent cuppa mixed with milk, black cocoa and topped with foam and extra cocoa powder.

2. Kid Mai Death Awareness Cafe — 6 secret escape rooms & a coffin challenge

Kid Mai Death Awareness Cafe is more than just a coffee shop. Apart from dining on meals, this cafe will school you about death, along with how to live your life carefully. Within the cafe lies four exhibition rooms that each present aspects of death.

Getting inside, you may be surprised to see a Thai coffin sitting in the middle of the store. Please don’t be, as this coffin acts as a special prop. Interestingly, the cafe also provides an activity that allows customers to lie down in the coffin. We heard that if you dare to lie down in there with a cover closed for more than 5 minutes, you’ll get a ฿20 discount. So why not give it a try?

As for what’s on the menu, the drinks represent different periods of life as per Buddhist beliefs, namely birth, ageing, illness, and death. Each item tells a separate story, and includes a short quote which narrates how it’s related to death.
For example, our top pick is Death for ฿85 (~USD2), a cocoa frappé topped with whipped cream. This drink is supposed to represent the “end of life” that we’ll all have to face eventually.

Additionally, after you’re done with your meal, the cafe is home to 6 escape rooms for customers to enjoy. Each room will offer a different genre of horror, but we’re told that they’re all pretty terrifying. For the prices, they start from ฿690 (~USD18)/person. Each escape room takes 50 minutes to playthrough and complete.
With these hidden escape rooms, we def think this cafe is a great Halloween hangout. Unfortunately, the establishment isn’t open during the night-time as it closes at 6PM. So you might find another place to hop to next after this one.

3. MORE NOM Magic Bar — try beer coffee at a mysterious, magical library

Just by taking a quick glance, you’d be able to tell what the theme of this cafe is. With retro bookshelves lined up with plenty of books encased in thick hard-covers, the space reminds us of a vintage European-style library. We would say the atmosphere would be great if you’d like to roleplay being in Hogwarts’ magical library, flippin’ through ancient tomes.

As you step within the space, you’ll probably notice the mildewed walls as they create a creepy ambience and help you pretend you’re actually in an abandoned library. The unique decor definitely attracts cafe-hoppers who drop by in fantastical costumes just to snap shots for the ‘gram.

We recommend ordering the signature drinks that are worth-trying, i.e. Beer Coffee at ฿65 (~USD1.70) – an Arabica coffee served in a stemless wine glass, topped with foam. Apparently, the drink does taste similar to beer and we find it a perfect choice to sip on leisurely while chilling out in this ‘haunted’ library.

4. Begin Again — pet-friendly themed cafe with skeleton baristas

Speaking of Halloween-themed cafes, we really can’t overlook Begin Again, a charming cafe hidden in Thap Chang District. The establishment’s classy Parisien-esque building exudes a European feel, and the decor changes seasonally based on the time of the year.

Within the massive cafe, you’ll spot a large indoor dining area with vintage furniture as well as elegant chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. Glancing at the bar-counter, however, you’ll notice a rather spooky surprise – two skeletons waiting to greet you.
For those who adore al fresco dining, don’t fret. There’s an entire outdoor dining area for you to have your meal while enjoying the cool breeze of Thailand’s winter.

After you grab a seat, we think it’d be a good idea to start your meal with a hot drink. This buttery Werther’s Original candy-topped Caramel Hot Tea Latte at ฿145 (~USD3) is a rich decaf latte made with herbal tea, steamed milk & caramel – perfect for warming you up amidst the moderately creepy atmosphere at this cafe.

Apart from the drink, we found a dish you should order to match with the creepy Halloween vibes, and that is Black Magic Spaghetti at ฿260 (~USD7), black spaghetti fried with dried chillies and topped with German sausage slices. We have to say this is the creepiest spaghetti dish we’ve ever seen, hands down.

5. The Bookshop Cafe & Bar — whimsical bar & cafe hidden in a Sukhumvit condo

With peculiar design choices like stairs that lead to nowhere, stepping into The Bookshop Cafe & Bar will literally make you feel like you’ve been whisked away into a magical world. Floating books, shelves, and disconnected staircases create an eye-catching dimension to the space. We’re betting that you’ll be tempted multiple times to take out your camera and capture it for the ‘gram.

Guests shouldn’t miss this signature Salmon Tartare served in a waffle cone, topped with jellied spicy seafood sauce for ฿220 (~USD6). Try one for yourself and let us know what you think of it.
Do note that the cafe is pretty hard to find as it’s hidden within Ashton Condominium in Sukhumvit Soi 38. So don’t expect it to be an easy aha moment when locating it like other cafes, especially if you’re coming here for the first time. Simply ask the staff at the condo for more detailed directions if you’re lost though.

6. Ace Of Cups Bangkok — visit a witch’s lair that hosts tarot readings

The next one on our list is a smol coffee shop that is themed around witchcraft in Lat Phao. Pushing the door open, you’ll spot a mini bar-counter with a bakery display cabinet and an store assistant waiting to serve you. Above the counter sits a blackboard with an English menu scrawled on the surface in chalk. Take your time to read through before picking your drink.
Despite its compact dining area, we like that it feels more private and less chaotic than other large cafes. So if you’re looking for a hipster cafe to hang out at, we’d say you should consider this one.

After placing an order for your drink, feel free to explore its interior. Judging by the decor, you may even sense black magic relics hidden within the quaint shop space. Nah, we’re joking.
Brown wooden beams, bookshelves, ancient dreamcatchers aside, you can’t miss this humongous mystical rune on a dark-blue cloth to the left. We’re not sure if supernatural rituals actually occur here, but it’s definitely an interesting vibe.

Honestly, we were really surprised when we found out about their tarot reading services as well. Interestingly, their tarot card sessions are held annually, and will take place on 9th December 2022 – 6th January 2023 for this year. You’ll get to learn about your life in four quarters of the following year, along with advice on what to be careful about, to avoid, and what will happen during specific periods.
So if this piques your interest, DM them on their Facebook page to schedule a timeslot. You’ll have to make your payment in advance and the cafe will host up to 3 participants/day and charge ฿2,500 (~USD65).

For Halloween this year, the cafe will commemorate Samhain’s Gathering – which is historically a Celtic celebration from 31st October to 1st November to mark the end of summer and a new year for the Celtics. During Samhain, Celtics believe that there’ll be more interactions between humans and spirits, and ancestral spirits would be welcomed home.
At AoC Bangkok, they’ll be holding a Samhain’s Gathering on 30th October from 2.00PM to 5.00PM. The gathering will be filled with participants chatting, drinking, and celebrating together. Anyone is welcome, so if you’re interested, you’d better not miss it. The participating fee is just ฿250 (~USD6). With so many activities, we’re sure that celebrating Halloween here will be pretty memorable.

7. Dok Kaew House Bar — hidden eatery in a wooden Thai shack

To be fair, this place isn’t quite a cafe like the others, but we added it on our list as the bar’s highlight is a chance to dine in a traditional Thai house which definitely adds to a pretty creepy ambience for guests.

Regardless of how spooky it appears from the exterior at night, once you get inside, you’ll notice a friendly atmosphere with employees and customers conversing in an amicable way. It’s apparently quite a popular spot for local regulars to hang out together after work. We’d say it’s like you dropping by and hanging out at your friend’s house.

One item that we believe is a must-try is this Spaghetti with Shrimp Eggs, Minced Pork and Tomato Chilli Paste priced at ฿170 (~USD4). Or if you adore Thai food, check out their wide selection of local cuisine like Pad Krapao, Tom Yum Kung, and all manner of spicy salads. Lastly, don’t leave without ordering a craft beer to complement your mains. With your jugs in hand, it’s definitely a great spot to unwind with a nightly live music performances.

8. Old School 88 — explore a creepy cafe in an actual abandoned school

Here’s another bonus cafe on the list that’s roughly a 2-hour drive from Bangkok. But we’re pretty confident that it’ll be well-worth your gas and time, especially if you are a fan of ghost-hunting shows.
Old School 88 is known for being an abandoned school that was converted into a coffee house. Needless to say, by choosing to come here, you should be prepared for an atypical experience with a tinge of mystery.
For context, the premises used to house a kindergarten which was abandoned for 10 years before the owner rented the location and transformed it into a cafe. Rest assured that everything is as old as it looks, which adds to the authenticity of the creepy vibes.

The school offers several photo spots like mildew-infested walls and vast, empty spaces. For example, this split stairway with ample room to get creative with your poses.

Just looking at the shadows in the corners of these pics are already shaking me up a bit; so it’s best to be prepped to feel slightly uncomfortable when you’re there in person. Ghost-hunting enthusiasts, however, will truly feel at home in exploring the veil between the real world, and the supernatural.

Before you leave, don’t forget to drop by the bathroom. We heard that it looks unnerving too, with its sailing-themed tiled interior – a homage to the young children who once resided within these walls. If you’re too scared to venture here alone, be sure to bring one or two of your bravest friends with you.
If you’re wondering about what to here when it comes to food, we think a Drip Coffee for ฿150 (~USD3) would be a good option to calm your nerves after exploring the spooky school. After all that screaming and picture taking, you may also be famished so fill up your bellies with their Crispy Fried Pork With Garlic for ฿88 (~USD2), which would hit the spot.

BONUS: Hog’s Head — an Irish-style pub & cafe just like Hogsmeade

Apart from interesting Bangkok cafes mentioned above, we’ve also found a noteworthy cafe with spine-chilling vibes in Phuket, so we’ve included it as a bonus.
Basically, Hog’s Head is a restaurant that will remind you of an Irish pub with its gothic-style architecture and Ye Olde English fonts on its signboard. Standing in front of the house, you’ll be greeted by a creepy jack-o-lantern peering down at you. The crooked door will also definitely catch your eye as it’s off-centre and frankly, a little unsettling.

Upon entering, we bet the interior’s surroundings will send chills down your spine even more. With its ill-lit ambience and bat monster statues perched on the wall, it truly feels like we’ve stepped headlong into the wizarding world of Harry Potter.

Walking straight to the bar-counter, you’ll spot an iconic eerie hog’s head with some spider webs above the beer barrels. For those who wanna avoid alcoholic drinks, their signature drink is the non-alcoholic Butter Beer – made from soda, syrup and topped with milk foam. You can order a jug for just ฿95 (~USD2).
If you’re worried about the limited availability of tables on the Halloween night, you might wanna call to book a table in advance as there’s a high chance that many people will flock to the restaurant on that night for a celebration.

Spooky Bangkok cafes for eventful Halloween hangouts
Halloween is just around the corner, and many of us might be struggling to find a right place to loosen up with friends on the day of the celebrations. However, if you’re in Bangkok, we hope this list can help you out with the decision-making.
