Stepping through the entrance at the Siam Serpentarium, you’ll notice a spacious atrium that’s usually packed with families bringing their kiddos on field trips to learn more about the 70 different varieties of snakes housed in this massive museum.

Looking around, you’ll also spot this alarming sight – a large snake raising its head to spy on guests. Don’t be too scared, as it’s just a hyper-realistic statue for guests to take pics with, and a fitting teaser for what’s to come.

For the uninitiated, Siam Serpentarium is divided into 3 main zones. The first zone is a Snake Museum that allows you to learn about the life of snake, be it how they are born, how they hunt, and how they reproduce. The exhibits are rather interactive, so you can expect to be surrounded by surreal forest-like environments.

Plus, there are some photo spots with cute animal figurines to snap ‘gram worthy pics, or pull funny faces with.

Next, it’s time for the second section, the Snake Planet Zone. Having read that, you might have guessed correctly that this zone contains real snake habitats – in fact, housing a grand total of more than 70 species, together with background info on their breeds and origins fronting each showcase. If you are a fan of snake documentaries, we bet you’ll be delighted to see these reptiles slithering up close.

Keep an eye out for one breed in particular – the world-famous Anaconda – its fame, or infamy, thanks in part to Nicki Minaj’s iconic anthem.

After exploring these exhibits, you may want to see select breeds in action. So that’s when we’d recommend heading over to the Naka Theatre to enjoy a snake show or two. Sans any spoilers, we’re sure you’ll be impressed by each performer’s skills and bravery – and by that we mean the tricks of both the human, and non-human stars.

Naka Theatre is the third and final zone that you shouldn’t miss. In this zone, there will be 2 kinds of shows that are themed around snakes for you to enjoy. The first show is an artistic interpretation of how Thai traditional legends and beliefs about snakes are represented in our culture. A major hint would be that you can expect to be privy to the story unfolding via a graceful traditional Thai dance.

The second show is a performance starring both men and snakes. Lasting about 15 minutes, the performance – though short – will be no less impactful and leave you on the edge of your seat. The performers will kiss snakes, catch snakes with their mouths, and do a live demonstration of how to milk snake’s venom into a bottle. For some people, this could make you feel nervous for them, but rest assured that these are trained professionals who’ve had tons of experience working with these reptiles.

So we have faith that they’ll put up a thrilling performance, that’s extra impressive because it takes skills and courage to do what they do best.

Whether you’re a snake lover or not, we’d say Siam Serpentarium is a nice place that lets you gain knowledge about snakes and give you an unforgettable experience with them. Perhaps, after spending an afternoon getting to know them better, you’ll have a greater appreciation for these oft misunderstood creatures.

Due to the fact that the attraction is located in Lat Krabang, Bangkok, we believe it is quite convenient for Bangkok residents to get here within an hour. If you don’t have a car, you can take the Airport Link – a commuter rail line – to Lat Krabang Station and hail a taxi to reach the museum. Or, simply get a taxi to pick you straight from central Bangkok, to reach within an hour.
