As said by Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the government has extended the operating hours of bars and clubs in many big cities, including Bangkok, Chonburi, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Koi Samui in Surat Thani, to boost the country’s economy.

For Bangkok, only venues in Silom-Patpong, RCA-Petchaburi, and Ratchadapisek are allowed to open till 4am. The venues outside these areas need to apply for a license to do the same.

The minister stated that operators and owners must adhere to safety regulations, which entail monitoring customers’ alcohol intake, offering accommodations for individuals surpassing the limit of 0.05%, arranging transportation via cars or taxis for customers who decline to stay, and refraining from selling alcohol to individuals below the age of 20.

Last Saturday, the 16th, was the first day when our bars and clubs operated until 4 am. It’s reported that only three bars in Khaosan were able to open until 4am. However, despite the extended hours, many people started to leave the scene at 1-2am.

The Thai government also decided to allow the venues to open from the late night of 31st December till 1am on 1st January. Relevant agencies will ensure the extension of the operating hours won’t lead to traffic accidents and will evaluate the impact before considering a permanent extension.
