ANONYMOUS Cafe Bar in Bangkok

When it comes to picking between a cafe or a bar to wind down on the weekends, some of us who live in Bangkok are constantly conflicted. That’s because there’s no shortage of options when it comes to flamboyantly themed cafes or bars hidden in plain sight in our bustling city.

Enter ANONYMOUS Cafe Bar – a relatively new player on the scene that touts a geometric aesthetic with an open-concept bar, and minimalist photo spots around every corner. Just like its name suggests, you’ll get the best of both worlds when it comes to drinks, with – spoiler alert – fizzy caffeinated cold brews served in stemmed wine glasses for that hi-so bar experience on a budget. Here’s a sneak peek of what to expect from our recent trip down.

Other cafes to visit in Bangkok:

Open concept cafe with a geometric aesthetic

In this line of work, we do consider ourselves cafe hoppers who’ve seen it all when it comes to Bangkok cafes. However, ANONYMOUS’ central aesthetic was no less than striking as we drew closer to the cafe’s premises – in particular, the exposed latticed metal structures surrounding the main seating area.

Once you’ve stepped inside the building, the walls create a geometric 3D optical illusion that lets you pretend you’re trapped inside the Matrix or a graphical calculator – whichever reference hits closer to home.

We also noticed tons of photographers lurking in various corners of the cafe, trying to get the best angles. Before you settle into your preferred seats, we’d encourage you to spend some time experimenting with your phone cameras to snap a few shots as well.

This set of transparent glass stools fronting the window-side seating area is the perfect setting to get that pensive shot of you “people-watching” the day away.

Besides the latticed walls, you’ll also notice some glass casings on electronic equipment exposing their inner workings – which contribute to its industrial, steampunk kind of vibe. All in all, the ambience here is def not quite like anything we’ve seen on Bangkok’s scene as of late.

But enough about the surroundings for now, let’s quickly delve into what’s on the menu.

Artfully crafted fizzy cold brews and matcha from ~USD4

As we approached the bar, we were greeted by a friendly barista who was deftly navigating the extensive array of equipment laid out on the counter to mix his drinks.

We spotted artfully crafted drinks on the menu – both caffeinated and non-caffeinated – ranging from ฿150-฿200 (~USD4.31-USD5.75). We ended up ordering a couple of items which came relatively fast, including their signature coffee – which we’ll rave about later.

Most of all, we’d like to give a special shoutout to the bar’s staff who put on quite a show for us while prepping the painstakingly whisked Matcha drink.

The final consensus, however, was that we loved their citrusy Yuzu Garden – a fizzy cold brew served in a wine glass – best. We noted several bitter notes from the caffeine shots, with a good balance of citrus in the full-bodied coffee – all of which were tied together by the pleasant fizz of carbonated water.

Hidden photo spots & reflective panels for outdoor shots

Before you make your way out of ANONYMOUS, we’ve identified a few places you’ve got to snap pics at for posterity. Namely, also without the slightest hint of irony, this “unidentified” feature wall.

These holographic walls were a joy to pose with, especially those facing the lush garden. Plus, the cafe makes it easy to plan your shots with low-rise benches as well.
