Growing up as Asian kids, we can all agree that our mums were usually the scariest in our households. God forbid we put a toe out of line, as doing anything naughty could warrant getting punished. However, we always came up with ways to weasel out of sticky situations, by expressing our remorse or pacifying her with our words.

This adorable son in Thailand, however, had a very unique way of asking for penance and mercy, tugging at the heartstrings of netizens. In a viral TikTok clip, a Thai boy dropped to floor and prayed for his mum’s wealth in front of her to avoid getting whooped.

Netizens quickly spun theories that this kid had learned the technique well from his dad, but here’s how the story went.

On 14th November 2022, a TikTok user @nootchanardae posted a viral video of a boy praying in front of his mum to avoid getting punished.

In the short clip, the exasperated mum explains that her son had thrown toys around the house, so she was going to hit him and teach him a lesson.

Cornered with the prospect of getting disciplined, her young son dropped to the floor with his arms raised, repeating a single refrain in Thai, “May you get richer and richer.”

Next, he pressed both hands together, and continued praying for her wealth. Once he began praying, however, she laughed out loud and gave up hitting him.

She also seemed genuinely surprised after seeing her son react in that way, with his adorable antics making the person behind the camera crack up as well.

Many netizens were amused by the boy’s actions

Many netizens flocked to leave funny comments. Some said he definitely copied his dad to survive that situation.

One user experienced something similar with her child, making her go soft-hearted all the time.

Finally, a woman praised the boy for knowing how to evade his mum’s judgment.

How I escaped your mother

While watching this relatable video, we wondered if we had done similar things in our childhood, i.e. begging our mums for forgiveness. However, the mystery remains as to how he had learnt that the path to mum’s forgiveness lay in his well-wishes for her future wealth. Perhaps, just like netizens suggested, the trick was courtesy of his dad. *laughs*

Regardless, we believe that the boy will continue to come up with cute ways to avoid punishments every time he does something wrong. Hopefully, his mum will go easy on him.
