Skywalk Mahanakhon in Bangkok

We’re all for panoramic views whenever we head to a new country. That’s why, when we heard about this experience at Skywalk Mahanakhon which would send us 78th storeys – more specifically, 314 metres – above the city of Bangkok, we decided that we had to pay this imposing building a visit. After all, someone’s gotta make sure Thailand’s highest 360° observation deck & glass-tray experience is worth its salt.

So whether you’re a sunset lover, urban photographer or simply someone on the lookout for something with a height element, this article is for you. Read on to check out some of the pictures we snapped while we were there and how our experience went.

Here are more Bangkok travel tips from TSL:

Indoor 360° observation deck with augmented reality

When we first came within range of the building, I expected to be brought straight up to the 78th storey and onto the observation deck. What I didn’t prepare myself for, was that they had another 360° indoor observation deck on the 74th storey.

On this level, it even came with an augmented reality function which allowed you to identify various Bangkok landmarks from a bird’s eye view.

Afterwards, their impressive hydraulic glass lift greeted us on the 75th floor. There might be a queue you’d have to look out for prior to entry, but once you’re in, it only takes less than a minute to be whisked up to the main attraction.

Sunset observation deck and a cocktail sky bar

Once we arrived at the top floor, we were greeted by a sea of yellow that was the main theme of the tower’s very own cocktail bar, affectionately named Sky Beach. Kudos to me for being conveniently clad in pastel yellow to match the chairs.

While we would normally associate Bangkok with its bustling traffic and jam-packed roads, it was definitely refreshing to enjoy the view of the city from up above – with a yummy cocktail in hand too.

I went for their Sun Is Shining Mocktail – a zesty pineapple and lime soda mix that set us back around ฿200 (~USD5.50). Granted, the observation deck was windy but with Bangkok’s infamous heat and humidity, this drink was much appreciated.

Stunning sunset views and a glass tray experience from above

As we wanted to commit to bringing you the full experience here, we stayed on for about 2 hours to await the sunset. And boy, was it worth it.

Of course, while we were here, we couldn’t miss out on the glass tray experience. Needless to say, it was both amazing and also horrifying in equal measure. You may observe that I was desperately trying to focus on my shoe, rather than the stomach-turning drop under the glass. But I was definitely satisfied with the end result, seeing the pictures we gleaned after.

In short, I’d recommend this experience for all… except people with a deathly fear of heights.

Fans of urban photography will surely have a field day here too. The different “lighting settings” provided by the setting sun definitely gave us the chance to picture some gorgeous shots of the landscape from the deck itself.
