Jim Thompson Farm: idyllic flower field
Winter in Thailand means flowers aplenty. While Suanluang Rama IX will no doubt reign supreme because of its proximity to Bangkok, a lesser-known but infinitely more idyllic spot is Jim Thompson Farm in Nakhon Ratchasima.
The farm is only open once a year in December and is home to one of Thailand’s most beautiful flower fields. It’s a spot that you want to include in your itinerary if you’re heading to the Isaan region this winter.
Here’s what you can expect from the farm, when they’ll be open, and our tips for making the most of it.

In Bangkok, the Jim Thompson name is usually associated with old period architecture and Thai silk. But out in Nakhon Ratchasima, that name is much more synonymous with beautiful flowers. That’s because Jim Thompson Farm has one of the most beautiful flower fields in the country.
Not only are the flowers colourful, but because of its rural location, the natural backdrop is equally breathtaking. You won’t have to twist, turn, and find strange angles to get a beautiful photo without the Bangkok concrete in the background here. You’ll get the forests, mountains, and clear skies.
The natural ambience lends itself to dates. Nothing heavy, nothing deep, just a beautiful atmosphere and comfortable weather to spend time together.
Also has an Isaan-style farmhouse

Let’s not neglect the farm part of the Jim Thompson Farm either. No doubt the flowers are the main attraction, but the farmhouse is a wealth of cultural knowledge not to be missed.
One of the farm’s goals is to showcase the charming Isaan agricultural life. You’ll get to see what an actual house would look like as well as some of the silk production that revitalised the Thai silk industry.
Only open in December

If the farm sounds interesting to you, then you must know that you’ll have to plan carefully to fit this in. That’s because Jim Thompson Farm is only open in December.
Each year will also have its own unique theme along with unique exhibits and performances. This year’s theme is “A Love Letter to You” and will feature an American-Isaan exhibit as well as various mor lam (หมอลำ) performances.
Here’s a tip for when you should visit the farm: despite the winter chill, visit it in the early mornings at around 9am to avoid crowds and before it gets hot.
You’ll also want to book your tickets online so you don’t have to deal with door prices. You can also find out about the various artists performing at the farm along with when they’re performing.
