Thai baker gets instant noodle & boiled egg cake order

Cakes are for celebrating joyous occasions and are usually decorated to the nines because of it. But sometimes you want your cake decorated in that special way, and could unexpectedly end up with a monstrosity.

One Thai baker was surprised by a rather uncommon request – her customer asked for an instant noodle-themed cake complete with a boiled egg.

Here’s the customer’s request in full and why it left the baker and Thai netizens shook.

Thai baker told to make cake look like it’s for “broke college kids”

If you’re ever giving your friend a surprise birthday party, chances are, you’d want a special cake. But we all have that one friend where special really does mean “special”.

Our Thai baker shared on 17th November 2022, that she got roped into being an accomplice one day, when a customer requested an “instant noodle and canned fish” themed cake.

The baker described the conversation she had with her customer in a post uploaded to Facebook. After receiving the request, she told the customer that she’d be sculpting the cake to look exactly as instructed.

But the customer rejected that notion. “I want a real instant noodle packet and canned fish on the cake. Put a boiled egg on it too.”

At this point, the baker presumably must have thought that it would have been way cheaper just to buy a plain cake and the items separately themselves. However, she was so service-minded that she went along with it. 

Then comes the customer’s coup de grace. The Facebook user said, “Can you make it last until the end of the month? Make it look really ‘poor’”. And so it was.

We love that the final result included the iconic MAMA instant noodles and Three Lady Cooks branded sardines. But kudos to the baker for upgrading it from the requested hard-boiled eggs to soft-boiled eggs – in case it didn’t look fancy enough.

When curious netizens asked about whether the cake would fall apart due to the weight of the sardines and noodles, the baker responded that she made sure it wouldn’t by making the cake of dense chocolate to provide it with a proper foundation. In other words, the cake may not look like much on the surface, but it’s actually put together with care.

One commenter even pointed out that the brand of instant noodles was spot on because if she had used a pack of Korean ramyun, it’d look too “expensive”.

Taste is still king, however. And in that category, our weird cake is a winner…? At least, according to the netizen.

Translation: An amazing looking cake. Wouldn’t it be greasy though?
Translation: Not greasy. The customer was very happy with it. 

So next time we eat our vegetables, we want whatever “black magic” this baker put on that cake. 

Get creative on a budget

You can ball on a budget. It does mean you have to get a bit creative though. Now we don’t know what the budget for this cake originally was or what the customer could afford to pay. But we do know that this cake costs around ฿350 (~US$10).

And at that price, the customer managed to gain a very unforgettable memory and, presumably, a delicious cake. So next time you find yourself not being able to do something on a college student budget, get creative and shoot for the stars anyway.
