New Covid-19 regulations in Thailand


Over the past week, Thailand’s Covid-19 numbers have been rising by quadruple digits – NNT actually reported 1,390 new cases today. In lieu of the surge of coronavirus cases, the Thai government is imposing further restrictions.

According to the spokesperson of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration Situation (CCSA), Mr. Taweesin Visanuyothin, there’ll be no curfew but instead new nationwide regulations that have come into effect on 18th April 2021.

Restrictions for public spaces


The decision was finalised on 16th April 2021 by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration – Mr. Taweesin Visanuyothin shared that having a curfew would impose restrictions to the public and would affect the national economy, reported Matichon.

Mr. Aswin Kwanmuang, Bangkok Governor & Police General stated that the measures will be tighter in “red-zone” provinces, shared The Nation Thailand

18 provinces in the red zone:

  1. Bangkok
  2. Chiang Mai
  3. Chonburi
  4. Khon Kaen
  5. Nakhon Pathom
  6. Nakhon Ratchasima
  7. Nonthaburi
  8. Pathum Thani
  9. Prachuap Khiri Khan
  10. Phuket
  11. Rayong 
  12. Sa Kaeo
  13. Samut Prakan
  14. Samut Sakhon
  15. Songkhla
  16. Suphanburi
  17. Tak
  18. Udon Thani

Safety measures regarding of public spaces:

  • Nightlife venues; including karaoke, pubs and bars will be closed until further notice.
  • Restaurants are permitted to open until 9PM and takeaway is permitted until 11PM; the serving of alcohol is temporarily banned.
  • Department stores are to close at 9PM.
  • Convenient stores, street markets, and supermarkets to close from 11 PM to 4 AM.
  • Sports centres and fitness centres are open until 9PM.
  • Stadiums can still organise competitions until 9 PM under the condition that there are no spectators.
  • No conducting events with mass gatherings that have more than 50 pax.
  • All kinds of school activities must be done online.

It is highly advised to stay at home and not travel without any necessary means, thus working from home is the safest option to curb the spread of Covid-19.
