Bangkok walking streets

Bangkok is no stranger to street markets and cultural landmarks. And now, there’s something new to look forward to in the coming months: walking streets.
As part of a new scheme to boost tourism, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will be turning busy roads like Yaowarat, Silom, and Khao San into pedestrian-only walking streets.
Trial to start in mid-December
Sakonthee Pattiyakul, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, announced that the trial is set to start on 13th December 2019 at Yaowarat Road.
Also known as Bangkok Chinatown, the area is a bustling hub for foodies from all over the world to try authentic street food. The road closure will also ensure pedestrians have more space to explore the area. As part of the event, eateries from across the city will be available for visitors.
The roads will be closed from 7pm to 12am for 3 months, from Friday to Sunday.

Silom, famous for hosting Bangkok’s annual Songkran festival, is also where both locals and foreigners flock to for delicious food and live music.
The walking street here will begin on 15th December and will take place on every 3rd Sunday of the month until May 2020.

Khao San Road will also be taking part in the festivities with cultural exhibits for visitors to enjoy. Activities include performances like traditional dancing and Thai pantomime. Surrounding areas like Sip Sam Hang, Tani, and Krai Sri will be closed as well.
The start date here is 16th December from 5pm till late, and will continue to take place every Sunday from 15th January 2020 onwards.
We’re happy to know that these walking streets will make enjoying street food a little safer without any vehicles around – plus, it’s a great chance to explore the city too.
