Covid-19 in Thailand
Following months of lockdown in early 2020, Thailand was one of the lucky few countries that could return to “normalcy”. Unfortunately, a surge of Covid-19 cases was the ultimate plot twist for the tourism-dependent nation that has been hoping to revive international travel.
Again, concerns are rising as 71 new cases have been reported in Bangkok on 4th April 2021 – many of the entertainment venues around the Sukhumvit area have been reported as source.

Bangkok entertainment venues spread infection
Dr. Yong Poonvorawan, Chief Virologist at Chulalongkorn University recently warned that entertainment venues are the main source of infections in a recent post on his facebook page regarding the infections around Thonglor, reported Bangkok Post.
Reported cases in Bangkok from 25th March 2021 to 27th March 2021:
- Krystal, Thonglor: 21 cases
- Ekamai Beer House, Ekamai: 8 cases
- Bla Bla Pub and Dollar Bangkok, Thong Lor: 5 cases
- The Cassette Music Bar and Pub Dirty in Ekkamai: 3 cases
- Baan Phahol Cafe and Bar, Chatuchak: 3 cases
Even though vaccines are already available in some areas, the virologist added that it could take up to two years for 70% of the global population to be vaccinated and produce herd immunity.
Curb the virus
Due to the rising cases of Covid-19, it’s important to be socially responsible and maintain the virus safety measures. We can stay home and still entertain ourselves. Even Michelin-star restaurant owner, Jay Fai has temporarily closed down her restaurant to prevent further spreading of the virus.
