Bangkok Green Bridge in Thailand

For a city full of tourists and attractions, it’s surprising to hear about “hidden” gems in Bangkok. For instance, the Bangkok Green Bridge, an elevated walkway that starts at the Sarasin intersection near Lumpini Park and extends to Benjakitti Park in Phrom Phong.

Earlier this week, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) announced a ฿260 million (~USD8.2 million) upgrade of the walkway, in order to draw more attention to the locals and tourists.

Places to explore around Bangkok

The pathway runs through an expressway and a canal, providing walkers views of Bangkok from different perspectives as well as a break from the city’s notorious traffic.

The pathway is smooth, which serves as a cycle and skate-friendly path to cruise along the area. According to the Bangkok Post, the BMA plans to widen the path further by at least 3 metres, making the walkway even more ideal for those traveling by foot and on wheels.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s aim for the park is for it to become one of Bangkok’s green and clean spaces.

In recent years, community members around the elevated pathway voiced concerns about their safety and crime rates.

Mr. Chiraphat Chai-amphon stated that crime rates have dropped after the bridge was repainted in 2020, reported Bangkok Post. His statement suggests that another revamp will further improve the area’s safety.

The BMA has also mentioned their plans to add more lights and CCTV cameras in order to ensure the safety of those using the bridge.
