People in Thailand have turned to different careers while businesses remained slow. Some completely leave their old jobs, while others adapt what they knew best to make changes exciting.

Recently, a group of dancers in Kanchanaburi opened their own porridge shop to make ends meet. They wore flashy costumes and performed for customers while serving food.

The group of five ran a tailor shop that specializes in dance costumes. When the crisis hit, not many people rented out costumes from them. Mr. Saran Kumma, the dance team’s leader, told Thai PBS that they decided to open a porridge shop because it was easy to eat.

To get by in spirits, they decided not just to run a porridge shop but make dancing and singing a part of their routine.

The idea attracted a lot of customers from within and outside of Kanchanaburi, with one coming from Lopburi which is a 3-hour car ride away, reported Thai PBS.

Mr. Kumma said they had no prior culinary experience and the first day involved a lot of trial and error, but they came to love it.

“We can’t think how long [the crisis] will be with us, we have to think [about] how we will survive it,” he remarked.

“We not only want our customers to go home with full stomachs, but we also want them to have their fill of entertainment and good moods.”

Keeping your chin up

Everyone is worried about getting through the crisis safely. While it’s scary at first to do something new, we all get used to it once we find our footing.

Remember to stay positive as you roll with the coming changes, and lift others up with you.
