Studio Ghibli To Release Its First Ever 3D Animated Film, Aya And The Witch

Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli is going beyond its reputation for 2D animation by launching its first 3D animation called Aya and the Witch. Fans of Ghibli’s Howl’s Moving Castle will have something to look forward to, as this new flick is based off a book from the original novel’s author!

On 20th June 2020, Studio Ghibli’s official Facebook revealed the first collection of images of Aya and the Witch. 

The story is adapted from Earwig and the Witch, a children’s book written by British Novelist Diana Wynne Jones, the writer of Howl’s Moving Castle.

The film will follow the story of a girl who discovers that she is a witch after stepping into a mysterious and creepy house. 

The animation won’t be screened in theatres, but will be broadcasted on Japanese television channel NHK during the winter. For other countries, stay tuned for further details.
