Face masks are essential items that medical staff need in order to perform their duties. Unfortunately, this important gear runs out of stock extremely quickly in these times with the demand for masks being so high.

A group of students at King’s Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) have launched a project called ‘Shield For Heroes’ to help produce face shields to donate to hospitals nationwide to help medical staff stay safe.

Over 1,500 face shields were donated over the past two weeks

Mr. Wiriya Palawat, the president of the Shield For Heroes project, said that they came up with the idea to help hospitals which currently lack medical equipment.

While the students need to study online, some of them have volunteered to help produce face shields from home and send them to hospitals in need, said Mr.Wiriya to Bangkok Post in an interview.

The team has now produced over 3,000 face shields. Over the last 2 weeks, half of them have been donated to hospitals across the country.

“It takes 4 minutes to make each face shield, and we are working around the clock to hit 5,000,” said Mr. Wiriya. More than a hundred hospitals have reached out to the project for help.

“We need to help medical staff as we are in the same boat,” said Mr. Nuttapon Prapaschai, a student in KMUTT. He also added that anybody who wants to support the project can visit their Facebook page ‘Shield For Heroes‘.

We’re so glad to know that Thai people are helping each other despite the crisis. Even though we’re in a tough situation, we will get through it together.
