Pad Krapao served with eyelashes

Usually when you find some foreign looking hairs in your food, it’s a huge cause for concern. Some might even consider it a real reason to never eat there again. So when one Thai woman found hairs not only once, but three times AND still came back for more? That’s when you know this Pad Krapao is to die for.

Here’s what the woman said that got Thai netizens in tears.

A desperate request from a regular

A recent Facebook post shared a screenshot of an exasperated customer making an odd request on 16th October. In the screenshot, you can see that she has made two orders of Pad Krapao but with a pretty lengthy description of what she wanted from it.

It begins normally with a simple ask for the dish to be a bit milder. That’s fair. Most Pad Krapaos can be hellishly hot. But then it takes a turn when she says that she’s found eyelashes 3 separate times when ordering from this particular restaurant. And yet as she attests, the food was so good that she kept coming back for more. 

This time “without eyelashes please”, she says.

Thais love street food. It’s delicious, cheap, and has that je ne sais quoi that you just don’t find from home cooking or more refined restaurants. We get that it can be a bit unsanitary but sometimes that just adds to the flavor.

So it’s no surprise when we saw comments like this, in response to the female customer’s unusual request.

Translation: Actually, it’s delicious because of the extra seasoning of eyelashes.

All in all, despite the jokes, it doesn’t change the fact that this customer genuinely seems to enjoy the restaurant’s dish, despite its “extra seasoning”.

Sometimes that one dish from that one place truly hits the spot.

A good relationship worth saving

As a major trading hub throughout history, many cultures bring their influences through Thailand. Many delicious ingredients and dishes are born as a result.

So it’s special when you find a dish in Thailand that really speaks to you. Perhaps that’s why this woman kept ordering the same dish, despite all the eyelashes she found in her food. To her, this restaurant was probably worth the trouble of saying something to change it for the better. It was, after all, a relationship worth saving.
