My Cottage Chiangmai has minimalist houses by the stream

After we’ve dedicated our waking hours to the work grind for several months, it’s about time to start planning a holiday before we approach burnout. A vacation away from the hustle and bustle of the city could be a good change of pace to rest our weary bodies and minds. Many northern attractions in Thailand might be go-to destinations to get closer to nature, and Chiang Mai remains our top pick.

My Cottage Chiangmai – a cosy resort that you certainly shouldn’t turn a blind eye to – is a hidden homestay with minimalist lofty houses located by the stream that will let you enjoy your stay amidst lush forests in mountainous Chiang Mai.

Hidden Chiang Mai homestay in the jungle

My Cottage Chiang Mai is a cosy homestay comprising three houses hidden in the midst of thicc jungles in Chiang Mai for those looking for a getaway in a private space.

Interestingly, all of the houses face a rippling stream that runs under the mini wooden bridge. So we’d recommend taking morning walks for the full cottage experience.

The bridge aside, what’s more appealing to us is their wooden hammock suspended in the middle of the stream, allowing guests to lie on and leisurely listen to the flow of the water. Most visitors don’t leave without a scenic shot of them lying on the hammock, and we totally understand why.

Importantly, the houses offer different spaces for guests to choose from based on their preferences. If you plan to come here with a large squad of friends, consider the Jacuzzi Room from ฿7,900 (~USD207), which is the biggest room that can house up to eight people.

The room comes equipped with two large beds and two smaller beds, and breakfast is also included in the price. The spacious premises will definitely be suitable for a big group of guests, so you don’t have to stay in separate rooms like at other homestays.

As you might expect from the name, the room offers an indoor jacuzzi where you can relax in a bubble bath while enjoying views of nature through a private window.

For diners with big appetites like us, we usually fill our stomachs with a larger meals at dinner. That’s where Baan Pak Plern‘s offerings are right up your alley. Ordering a Mookata set for ฿350 (~USD9) which comes with assorted veggies and meat, could be a good way to hang with your homies over a homely meal. Besides this option, there are a few coffee shops around the homestay, like Kam Por and Atlantis Valley, in case you’re a cafe enthusiast.

Forested getaway in Mae Kampong, Chiang Mai

Modern lux hotels in the city may have all the amenities we’re used to, but if you truly want to get away from the daily grind – consider this forested getaway where you’ll stay close to nature and away from the hectic atmosphere. Spending time next to the soothing sounds of nature, could help ease the exhaustion you feel that has accumulated over the year.

Since the homestay is pretty far from downtown Chiang Mai, the most convenient way would be driving your own car. If you don’t have one, try hiring a car from the city.
