Monk gives locals ฿500 each after winning ฿18M lotto

After winning the lottery, most people have their own plans about what to do with the cash.

While some individuals opt to save money for their future, others may decide to split their prize with other people. For example, here’s the story of a monk who gave locals ฿500 (~USD15) each after he won ฿18 million (~USD548,450) in the lotto.

Monk gives locals a cash handout

A Facebook post showing Phra Kru Phanom Prechakon, an abbot’s secretary at Wat Phra That Phanom Woramahawihan in Nakhon Phanom, giving community members ฿500 (~USD15) each in cash became talk of the town on social media in Thailand.

Dozens of locals queuing up for cash handout were shown in a series of pictures uploaded on the monk’s Facebook account, PhrakruPhanom Prechakon.

Abbot’s secretary wins ฿18M jackpot

Prior to providing cash to locals, the abbot’s secretary reportedly won ฿18 million (~USD548,450) in the latest lottery draw from 1st March 2022, according to Amarin News.

He revealed that he had bought three lottery tickets with the auspicious number ‘605’, which he saw while praying with a Thao Wessuwan statue. 

Each lotto ticket landed him the jackpot, ฿6 million (~USD182,570), bringing the total to ฿18 million (~USD548,450), as reported by Khaosod.

Following the prize he had won, Phra Kru Phanom decided to give monks, locals, and workers at the temple ฿500 (~USD15) each, which totaled ฿800,000 (~USD24,400).

The abbot’s secretary also donated ฿4,000,000 (~USD121,740) to the temple at which he resides.

Furthermore, Phra Kru Phanom announced on his Facebook that the rest of his prize money was donated to charities.

Netizens pay respect to the abbot’s secretary

After the post made rounds on Facebook, many netizens paid their respect to the abbot’s secretary in the comments section.

Translation: The kind of monk who receives money and shares it with other is rare to find. May he be healthy, and I hope that he will keep doing good deeds.

One netizen praised the monk for giving money to others.

Another netizen typed Sathu, which translates to ‘Amen’. The comment seems to refer to hoping the monk will be given good merit .

One Facebook user commented that he would do the same if he won the first prize.
