Luang Pho U Thong, Suphanburi

Thailand’s many gigantic Buddhist structures make impressive sightseeing spots, and Luang Pho U Thong‘s Buddha statue is one of them.

Sited in Suphanburi, the statue is a large Buddha sculpture carved from a cliff surrounded by sheer cliffs. Here’s an overview of the place and how to get there.

The highlight here is a massive Buddha statue called Luang Pho U Thong that’s carved from a cliff. It’s surrounded by the grounds of a Buddhist centre, with many smaller Buddhist statues in front of the big statue that you can also worship.

The site is a former abandoned quarry and offers a large space where you can chillax, with a few lush areas and a marsh surrounded by sheer cliffs.

Behind the Buddha statue lies a big tunnel where you can explore.

When you get inside, you can pay homage to small Buddha sculptures on a limestone wall, a Buddhist’s footprint and other small sacred statues. You can also donate some money into the donation boxes there to help with the electricity and water.

Pay respect to Luang Pho U Thong in Suphanburi

As the sculpture is the only and largest Buddha statue carved from a cliff in Thailand, it’d be a good idea to drop by and worship the statue once you find yourself in Suphanburi.
