Kew Muang Mountain High Camp

Every time I hear someone mention the province of Nan in regular conversation, I get all excited because I truly believe it deserves more popularity. For those who adore nature resorts in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, this up and coming locale will be right up your alley.

Kew Muang Mountain High Camp in Nan has elevated hammock floors and a Sky Room – an all-glass cottage where you can sleepover in and wake up to incredible views of towering mountains blanketed in rolling morning fog.

As the less-travelled city is located in the northern part of Thailand, glimpses of mountain scenery wherever you go will also add to the secluded retreat or ‘Swiss Alps’ vibe. Read on for more on this breathtaking resort as a gateway to the North.

This particular resort is situated on a mountain ridge overlooking a vast land of forests and mountains in the province of Nan. We’re confident that thanks to its prime location, you definitely won’t miss morning fog and golden light bathing the horizon when you wake up.

Needless to say, both the jacuzzi and hammock floor on the deck are nice spots to take in the panoramic views. Or, if you hate being exposed to the sun, your glass room on the side can still let you enjoy the surroundings.

Speaking of rooms, we spotted a glass house, bubble dome tents, camping tents, and a countryside cottage in the middle of the field as options at this resort. What caught our eye though, was the dome tent in particular.

It’s decked out with a mini dining table in front for guests to enjoy their meals and the scenic view at the same time.

And if the view from your room isn’t gratifying enough, perching on this lofty tree’s platform will definitely make for an unforgettable experience. At that height, you’ll get to bask in uninterrupted 360° views of the forested hills below you. Moreover, you can make use of the spot for some nice snapshots – think a Tarzan and Jane roleplay maybe?

Now that we’ve covered an overview of the place’s amenities, it’s time to explore the rooms’ interior and facilities within.

Firstly, let’s start with the first room that you shouldn’t miss when you come and stay at this resort. Sky Room is a room with ceiling to floor glass windows for panoramic views of the sweeping landscape without having to  leave the room.

In the morning, the sunlight will seep through the glass panes and we’re sure you’ll be able to wake up even without the alarm clock on your phone.

Next to the Sky Room lies a deck with a circular jacuzzi and an elevated hammock floor. Guests will be able to kick back in the pool and revel in the fresh mountain air and panoramic views.

At nightfall, you can turn on the yellow light on the hammock or light the candles to kick up the romantic vibes a notch.

For these perks, be willing to fork out ฿4,500 (~USD125)/night. This price includes breakfast, afternoon tea, one set of Mookata, and drip coffee to sip on while peeking at the rolling hills in the distance.

Alternatively, for the same price, you can opt for the white bubble dome tent Forest Camp Kew Muang instead. The tent offers a large bed, a mini bar, and an air-conditioner. We believe the weather up there will probably be cool enough so there won’t be a need to turn the AC on. Importantly, when you walk outside, you’ll spot a bathtub on the right to soak in for the full wellness retreat experience.

Lastly, the final package worth considering is this gorgeous cottage in the middle of a sprawling green field, Srinaman. Though the name differs slightly, it’s still one of the locations guests can pick to stay as part of the Kew Muang High Camp experience.

Just 10 minutes away from Kew Muang High Camp by car, you can expect totally different vibes from the rooms covered above. The large cottage is right smack in the middle of the green field with a private swimming pool in front of the house. For those who want to try living like a hi-so farmer for a day, do consider this accommodation priced at ฿2,990 (~USD83)/night.

Getting to Kew Muang High Camp

If you want an alternative getaway apart from Chiang Mai, we think Nan is a less-touristy option with similar attractions for sure. Kew Muang High Camp is a pretty good representation of what else is in store if you pay a visit to this city.

Getting too Nan is pretty easy, as it’ll entail slightly over an hour’s flights out of Bangkok to Nan Nakhon Airport. This particular resort is within half an hour’s drive via Grab from Nan’s airport. So the total travel time wouldn’t be more than 2 hours, we suppose.
