Iconic Girl From Nowhere moments
Season 2 of Girl From Nowhere ended on a somber but ambiguous note – viewers were left wondering what Nanno’s expressionless stare over the campus meant. Is she dead-dead? Is she plotting her revenge? Is she officially retiring? *So many questions.*
The ending of the second season was one of the many puzzles that Girl From Nowhere left fans to solve before the next set of episodes. Like many of the other mysteries in the Netflix series though, it may require an entire re-watch to actually figure out. While we’re always up for another suspenseful journey, there is – surprisingly – such a thing as too much Nanno.
So, for those who are missing Nanno but aren’t keen on watching the entire show again, here’s a list of iconic moments from Girl From Nowhere.

Warning: Spoilers ahead
1. Nanno’s iconic laugh
While there are many iconic things about Nanno – the blunt bob, the hair twirl and the punishments – her maniacal laugh is probably the main character’s most distinguishing feature.
While watching the series pilot, The Ugly Truth viewers are already rooting for the Girl From Nowhere‘s first target to meet his demise. It’s at the climax of the episode, when Mr. Win catches his daughter in the act and Nanno begins circulating evidence of his actions, that we see the first laugh.
While the first laugh is silent, viewers can deduce from Nanno’s contorted and almost-off-putting expression that she is not one to reckon with.
This continues to be a motif throughout the series.
Fun fact: Nanno’s actress, Kitty Chicha actually came up with the laugh herself.
2. The dance: arguably the most iconic moment from Girl From Nowhere
The dance from Girl From Nowhere. ‘Nuff said
Talk to any GFN fan, and they’ll know exactly what you mean when referring to “the dance”. In fact, the scene isn’t just renowned among Girl From Nowhere fans – it’s gained such a wide fanbase that an influencer in Thailand made their own version.
Whilst we see it for the first time in Season 1’s Apologies, Nanno recreates the scene with Yuri in Season 2 episode, SOTUS.
There really isn’t much that can be said about this moment, because viewers can just feel the chaos exuding from the Girl From Nowhere.
3. The Girl From Nowhere is undead
By the end of The Ugly Truth, viewers can kind of guess that Nanno has uncanny abilities. However, it’s not until the second episode, Apologies, that audience members know for sure that she possesses supernatural powers.
At her new school, the Girl From Nowhere becomes popular among male students, which sparks jealousy and resentment from two female classmates. In an attempt to gain favour with the boys who are smitten with Nanno, her “friends” help the male students with their plan to assault Nanno.

Nanno ultimately “dies” at the hands of her abusers. To get rid of the evidence, the group of students bury the Girl From Nowhere.
But, to everyone‘s surprise, Nanno keeps respawning and even going to school.
4. T.K. makes his first friend
Lost & Found is probably the most popular episode of Girl From Nowhere. After watching Nanno target and punish those who are taking advantage of the system – or are straight up abusing it – her relationship with this episode’s main character is definitely a curveball.
In this episode, Nanno displays empathy – and possibly affection – towards her target, T.K., a high school student who bounces from school to school due to his stealing habits.
Nanno starts with her usual modus operandi: befriend the target and use their own decisions to push them over the edge. Throughout the process of getting to know T.K., however, Nanno realises that his motivations are not malicious, and even slightly pitiful.
Eventually, it seems like Nanno is no longer out to teach T.K. a lesson, but is simply making a new friend.
Unfortunately, Nanno is unable to keep her promise. Before she departs, however, the Girl From Nowhere helps reunite her new friend with his absentee father.

The Girl From Nowhere even entertains T.K. when he asked her to pinky-promise that she’d never leave him. We’re not crying, you’re crying.
5. Ms. Aum’s realisation in Thank You Teacher
While the first nine episodes from Season 1 had its fair share of plot points coming out of left field, the 10th episode, Thank You, Teacher was the first one where our jaws were left agape.
In this episode, viewers watch Ms. Aum slowly loses touch with reality as her teaching methods are called into question. As the story unfolds, viewers learn that Ms. Aum isn’t only buckling under the stress of her job, but has also faced familial problems, like her husband leaving her and her son for his mistress.
As her ex-husband drives away with his new family, we hear Ms. Aum’s son screaming that he doesn’t want to live with her.

Ms. Aum succumbs to her demons after the school’s administration informs her there is no way she will win the coveted “Teacher Of The Year Award”, and suggests that she take a couple months to recuperate.

As Ms. Aum prepares to attend the award ceremony for “Teacher Of The Year”, a series of flashbacks reveal that the teacher has been hallucinating her son throughout the episode.
This was a The Sixth Sense level plot twist.

While she actually had a son, it turns out that Ms. Aum had choked him to death while he was screaming that he didn’t want to live with his mother.
6. Nanno’s not so “crazy” after all
In the two-part Season 1 finale of Girl From Nowhere, a group of friends gather for a reunion where all seems to be well and jolly.
The alumni recount their glory days, which are shown through a series of flashbacks. A heavily pregnant Fong – who seems to be the Homecoming Queen – fondly remembers how she and her now-husband and then-boyfriend, Tap, were #couplegoals.

As the classmates discuss their respective careers, relationships and lifestyle, one alumnus inquires about that “crazy” student who fell off the face of the earth. Fong and her friends then delve into how that classmate – surprise, it’s Nanno – would always be speaking to her “imaginary” boyfriend on the phone.
In the second part of BFF, viewers are taken through Nanno’s memories that reveal her “made-up” boyfriend was none other than Fong’s husband, Tap. Angered by Nanno’s actions and her then-boyfriend’s infidelity, Fong and her friends spread rumours about Nanno’s sanity and ultimately murdered her.
7. Nanno giving Nannai a taste of his own medicine
In the Season 2 pilot, Pregnant, the Girl From Nowhere not only defends her title as the harbinger of justice, but also cements her status as a feminist icon.
Nannai is Nanno’s target in Pregnant. A notorious playboy known for getting girls at his school pregnant, Nannai also walks away from every relationship unscathed, while his exes are left as social pariahs and/or the aftermath of unsafe abortions.
When Nanno arrives at Nannai’s school, he’s under the – very false – impression that the Girl From Nowhere is his new target.
Not only does Nanno end up winning the jackpot in his friends’ bet to see how long it’ll take for her to put out, but she also gives Nannai a taste of his own medicine.
She also warns that he may start feeling some strange sensations.

When Nannai breaks up with her, Nanno feigns distress. As he dismisses her emotions and walks away, however, she reminds him that it was her game all along.
8. True Love is love
Just like with Lost & Found in Season 1, Girl From Nowhere creators slipped a semi-wholesome episode to gave audiences a little break from the dark and twisted vibes in Season 2.
True Love follows a very strict teacher, Ms. Nareumol, whose ambition is to protect the dignity and modesty of students attending an all girls’ school. Her goals are crushed when they merge with the all boys’ school next door.

Upset and distraught, Ms. Nareumol implements just about every possible rule to keep female students from interacting with the boys. However, with technology, it’s basically impossible.
Lucky for her, Nanno introduces Ms. Nareumol to an anonymous instant messaging app that students are using. The Girl From Nowhere suggests Ms. Nareumol create an alias to keep up with students; the teacher complies and sets her username as “empty vase”.
Like in all Girl From Nowhere episodes, nothing is kept secret forever. The identities of those using the anonymous messaging app are revealed during a school assembly, and Ms. Nareumol learns that her the new confidant she met through the app, Daffodil, is actually her colleague and mentee.
In front of the whole school, Daffodil declares her love for Ms. Nareumol and the two share a tender kiss as the students cheer on. It seems like the vase is empty no longer. *Sniffles*
9. The “birth” of Yuri
Before Yuri was every Girl From Nowhere fans’ least liked character, she was just an underprivileged student that Nanno wanted to help in Season 2 Episode 4.
In Yuri, viewers are given a front-row seat to what appears to be a very strange and unhealthy friendship between Yuri and her two affluent friends, Tubtim and Nana. In an attempt to help Yuri get back at her so-called “friends”, Nanno hatches a plan where she can access their computers for some dirt that’ll result in some severe repercussions.

Yuri never reveals that she never intended to bring her friends to justice. Instead, she wanted to be the sole distributor of the media that was locked away on her friends’ computer, leading her to becoming so rich that she wouldn’t have to depend on anyone anymore.
Unfortunately, the criminals who assaulted her “friends” heard her speech, and ended up drowning her in order to take the files for themselves.
Soon after Yuri drowns, Nanno wakes up and walks away completely unaffected.
But, not for long.
10. Nanno “dies”
Season 2 of Girl From Nowhere had a stronger focus on Nanno’s origins and her mortality than the first. Framed as a rivalry between Yuri and Nanno, viewers are taken through the nuances of the Girl From Nowhere‘s justice system: in the penultimate episode, Yuri inquires Nanno about the confidence she has in her methods. The latter then points out that Nanno’s lack of assuredness in her decisions have led to the loss of her insta-healing powers.
This all comes to a head in the aptly named finale, The Judgement.
In the final scenes of The Judgement, when Nanno sacrifices herself to save Junko’s mother the Girl From Nowhere dies.
However, knowing Nanno, this probably isn’t the last we’ll see of The Girl From Nowhere.
Iconic Girl From Nowhere moments
TBH it’d be impossible to list all of the iconic moments from Girl From Nowhere because it seems like the entire series in itself was prototypical.
We’re thankful to the production crew and Kitty Chicha for bringing us such entertainment, but are also slightly resentful over how long they’re making us wait to figure out all the mysteries. *Sighs*
While we may not know when Girl From Nowhere is returning, we can always reminisce. With every re-watch, there’s bound to be a new answer to confirm your theories, or hidden Easter eggs that may even inspire new hypotheses.
What do you think? Have we missed anything?
