Hin Sam Wan in Bueng Kan

Located in the northeast, Bueng Kan is an underrated city in Thailand with many interesting nature spots and scenic views of Laos’ border you can admire.

If you are visiting the place for the first time, don’t miss out on Hin Sam Wan that boasts three massive whale-shaped rocks with a 360° view of greenery and mountains in Laos.

Hin Sam Wan in Bueng Kan has three attention-grabbing, massive whale-shaped rocks jutting out of a high cliff.

As the road there can be dangerous for drivers unfamiliar with the terrain, we recommend getting a pick-up ride from the park office at Phu Sing for ฿500 (~USD14.91)/round trip. The pick-up can take up to 10 people, so you can split the cost with other travellers.

Standing on these rocks, you can see a commanding view of lush lands, the Mekong River, and mountains in Muang Pakkading, Laos.

It’d be nice to get up here in the early morning to enjoy a sunrise view.

Phu Sing Gate is another popular spot near Hin Sam Wan’s viewpoint. Here, you can take some photos with two big rocks and a scenic view as a backdrop.

From this spot, you can go to Sang Roi Bor which is another viewpoint with numerous shallow holes in the ground, resembling Sam Phan Bok in Ubon Ratchathani, where you can walk around and view the scenery too.

Near Phu Sing Gate, you can worship Luang Pho Phra Sing, a golden Buddha image sitting on a stone platform in front of huge rocks.
