As people are prohibited from heading outside after 10PM because of the night curfew, homeless people have been asked to stay at free government lodging where they can be in a safer environment indoors with some essentials offered.

Ministry statistics show that there are over 1,400 homeless people who live their lives along Bangkok’s streets, at locations like Lumphini Park and Hua Lamphong Train Station.
Now that the country has activated a curfew, Social Development and Human Security Minister Juti Krairiksh went to Lumpini Park and Hua Lamphong Station on 5th April 2020 to urge the homeless to temporarily reside at government lodging. This is meant to help them avoid contracting COVID-19 and also to comply with the curfew.

There are three facilities available for homeless people in Bangkok, at Din Daeng, On Nut, Thonburi, and another one in Pathum Thani province. The lodgings provide three meals a day, personal items like blankets, soap, toothpaste and a face mask.

In response to providing homeless people with permanent lodging, the Social Development and Human Security Ministry mentioned that most of them were used to the freedom of outdoor life. In the past, the agency has worked on providing free lodging for the homeless, but they left back for the park and train station, which they prefer.
We hope that they will be willing to stay this time so that they won’t be at risk of catching the virus out there.
