Cicada Market Is A Hua Hin Night Market With Grilled Mala Skewers & Free Magic Shows

Cicada Market is a Hua Hin night market

Hua Hin is one of the top destinations in Thailand for beaches and nightlife. However, because most people pay attention to the beaches, bars, and malls, they may not know that there are many night markets or walking streets that deserve a visit too. Here’s one market we’d like to recommend, especially for those who call themselves as foodies.

Cicada Market is a night market in Hua Hin where you can drop by to try many different types of local cuisine, after a day trip to the beach. Let’s explore what you can have at this night market.

We daresay that Cicada Market is THE outdoor night market in Hua Hin to be. Especially if you’re a first-time visitor. Locals and tourists alike, flock here for food and clothes around the year. As the market is near the beach, it’s also a great place to grab something to eat to re-energise ourselves after getting tired from building sandcastles.

Fundamentally, the market is split into four zones for guests to experience various types of things here:

  • A la mode & Idea Shop – clothing stores, hand-made gifts, and decorations
  • Amphitheatre – an open theatre where talented people head there to perform
  • Art Factory – a place that’s full of artwork with paintings which can be bought
  • Cuisine – Thai cuisine and hawkers serving wacky food options

Of course, for those who love market-hopping in Thailand, you’ll be expecting more than just food and accessories, and thankfully Cicada Market does deliver a few other surprises on that front.

Once you get inside, you’ll spot a large number of white tents lined up in a row, selling copious amounts of stuff, ranging from food to handicrafts. Chances are, you’ll def find something unexpected if you spend time to comb through the shops.

Also, we like the fact that the market provides a large seating area with lots of tables and chairs for guests have their meals, decorated with plenty of lanterns hanging on the trees to improve the atmosphere at night.

A pro-tip is to hit up Tamarind Market is another highly-visited market nearby that you can opt to explore as well.

When we said you could find many cuisines here, we meant it. The market has many rows of food stalls with hundreds of cuisines, like Khao Soi, seafood dishes, mala skewers and more.

For our suggestions – if you have no idea what to have or where to start – you should definitely start with the BBQ stalls. Think grilled meat and veggie skewers from an extremely affordable ฿80 (~USD2).

Or, if you’re not a BBQ fan, you can go for this ‘King Arthur Pizza‘ from The BBQ Hua Hin, which is topped with cheese, ham, and some rocket leaves. Besides, the stall also sells XXL grilled pork ribs that you can have to satisfy your bellies for the night.

In addition to the many kinds of food stalls available, you’ll spot some cute gifts, such as perfume sachets, soaps, and antiques etc., that you can buy to surprise your family back home at reasonable prices. So, take your time to browse things here, we bet you’ll find a lot that you can’t resist spending your money on.

When you finish your shopping spree, hang back for a bit till the evening falls as we hear that there’ll be pretty entertaining shows over at the Amphitheatre.

Spare some time to watch the shows

As we mentioned earlier, the Amphitheatre is a zone for various performances to be featured, so everyone can enjoy the shows for free.

If you have a passion for dancing, we’re sure you will revel in watching crews breakdance at this space. You could ask to join them, if you wish to be part of the performances.

At this stage, you can expect to see magicians doing tricks that will blow you away or musicians playing easy-listening songs. Feel free to grab any of the food you’ve purchased, and bring it here to feast on, while watching the live shows.
