Black sand beaches in Thailand

Thailand is famous for its gorgeous beaches with pristine white sandy shores and bright blue waters, especially in southern provinces like Phuket and Krabi.

Unknown to many, however, Thailand also has special black sand beaches travellers can visit to have a seaside experience like no other.

1. Nangthong Beach, Phang Nga

You might know Phang Nga for its famous island called Koh Tapu, also known as James Bond Island, as it was featured in a James Bond movie called The Man with the Golden Gun

Aside from that popular spot, what you have to put on the list when in Phang Nga is a hidden black sand beach along Nangthong Beach

The whole beach might seem to have just ordinary white sand, but there is a small corner where the sand turns black due to mining work in the past.

It’s recommended to visit the beach in the evening at around 6pm, which is the best time to catch the sunset.

Koh Chang, Koh Payam, and Koh Kangkao are the most popular attractions to visit during a trip to Ranong province.

But we recommend taking the time to find this secret spot located inside Laem Son National Park to enjoy a black sand beach and peaceful vibes on Prapas Beach.

The black sand here is a result of wood chips that had been washed up on the shore, which stayed there for a long time until they turned into fine dust.

Saidum means “black sand” in Thai, and this black sand beach in Trat province is surrounded by the preserved mangrove forest Laem Makam

This 1,500m black shore comes from slag and crushed seashells called limonite. Locals believe that the black sand is good for the skin and even offer visitors a black sand spa in the middle of the mangrove forest.
