Strict social distancing measures in Thailand

Amid the COVID-19 outbreak that’s caused lots of people to suffer financially, we’ve seen good folks come together to support those in need, like giving free food to others.
And while this is done in good faith, one food donor in Bangkok failed to properly manage the situation which led to more problems.
Was a charity event in Bangkok
In top of lockdowns and curfews, one major rule everyone has been asked to follow to curb the spread of the pandemic is social distancing.
On 20th April, a video of a charity event recorded by a local, taken on 12th April, went viral on the internet for the wrong reasons.
A swarm of people could be seen gathering at Hua Lamphong Train Station, where a food donation event was taking place. However, no one was seen following any safety precautions, instead standing extremely close to each other.
Police deputy spokesman, Pol Col Kissana Phattanacharoen, said on 20th April 2020 that police officers at Phlapphla Chai 2 station were on the case and were able to identify the donors, whose names are withheld.
The donors have been charged for causing public gatherings, though unintentionally, which could lead to a cluster of virus infections. They can possibly face a sentence of up to 2 years in prison.

A spokesman for the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration, Taweesin Visanuyothin, warned that if any donor would like to help others, they need to contact their district office beforehand. This is to ensure any charity event being held will be done properly, without putting anyone at risk of catching COVID-19.
We’re glad that people are trying to help others during this time. However, it’s important to follow the rules so that everyone involved is safe
