Bangsaen, located in the province of Chonburi, is one of the most popular beaches amongst Thais as it is the nearest beach to Bangkok. With the government easing restrictions such as allowing customers to eat in restaurants and reopening markets such as Chatuchak Market, people are now allowed to exercise and cycle on the promenades along the beach. However, the beach is still closed.

After the announcement was made of promenades and sidewalks along Bangsaen Beach now being open for people to exercise and cycle, crowds were seen along the beach on 11th May.

Narongchai Kunplome, the mayor of Muang Saen Suk municipality posted photos showing many people not practising social distancing. The mayor stated in the post that although the area is open to the public, gatherings in groups and eating there were not allowed. However, many people were seen breaking the rules.

Additionally, the mayor also spotted people going into the waters, which is a restricted area. Some were caught by police and given a warning but some were not being caught as the number of police officers on duty were limited.

The mayor warned that if people are still seen breaking rules again, although there are signs being placed and police officers on duty, he may have to announce another closure to the area.

Do not let your guard down

Although the number of cases is decreasing and many restrictions are being lifted, you should not let your guard down. Let’s not put ourselves and others in danger and comply with all the safety measures.
