Thai Health Minister Plans To Reduce Quarantine Period To 10 Days Or Even Remove It Entirely

Thailand may reduce or cancel quarantine

Thailand has just welcomed its first group of travellers from Shanghai ever since travel restrictions were lifted on 20th October 2020.  And although visitors hold a Special Tourist Visa (STV), they still have to complete a 14-day quarantine before travelling around the country.

Good news for all travellers. The Health Minister recently shared that Thailand might reduce the quarantine period to 10 days or less, and might possibly cancel it entirely.

“If we are confident, there’s nothing to fear”

On 21st October 2020, the Public Health Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, said, “We are planning to reduce the quarantine period to be less than 14 days. Actually, the Public Health Minister is ready to operate that, but we have to wait for other involved departments to prepare their measures”.

He also added that the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) planned to propose a 10-day quarantine, and he agreed with the plan.

“If we are confident, there’s nothing to fear. We can reduce it to 7, 5, 4, 3 days or even none.”

However, the minister said that Thailand cannot operate as a free country like some European countries for now. The quarantine still exists, but the period might depend on the risk levels of each country the visitors come from.
