Olten, a small town in Switzerland, has experienced something similar to what we’ve seen in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, where rain becomes food.

But instead of spaghetti and meatballs falling down the sky, the town saw an early “snowfall” that was really just cocoa powder instead of glittering ice crystals.

The town of Olten even posted a photo of this happening on their Twitter with a caption in German that read: “Cocoa rain in Olten’s industrial quarter: the ventilation system is to blame.”

Broken air-ventilation system

According to the Associated Press, the chocolate snow was a result of a minor malfunction in the cooling ventilation system for a line of roasted cocoa nibs – crushed cocoa beans that will be made into chocolate – at a Lindt & Sprüngli factory in town.

Combined with strong winds, the dark powder spread over the factory’s perimeter and the town.

The chocolate company also offered to pay for any cleaning needed and the ventilation has been paired.

Despite the error, we reckon all the chocolate lovers in Olten were living their best daydreams for the day.
