This stray cat in Australia named Elwood made headlines earlier this month after he was ‘hired’ by a local hospital, Epworth HealthCare. The reason? He’s been hanging around the premises every day for almost a year – that’s the longest probation period we’ve ever heard!

Chantel Trollip, one of the hospital employees, shared with The Dodo that she met Elwood about a year ago and he has been seen at the hospital every day since then.

“He’s there pretty much every day, if I don’t spot him, my coworkers do. He’s usually either securing the front door waiting for pats or lounging in the bushes nearby soaking up the sun,” Trollip said.

Trollip revealed that one day, she noticed a strange tag attached to Elwood’s collar. Turns out it was a hospital employee’s ID badge labelled ‘security.’ However, she did not mention whether the staff or the hospital was responsible for this.

“He’s got his own ID badge which is identical to our actual staff badges, down to the call codes on the back,” she explained.

Earlier this month, Epworth HealthCare hospital has also posted about Elwood’s employment on their Instagram account with the caption:

“Furline Health Worker Elwood has completed his induction at #Epworth! The Erin Street local is often spotted lifting the spirits of patients & staff. Purrfect!”

Well, the post answered our question on whether they actually hired him.

Although Elwood is now employed as security, he still sticks to his old routines and greets both employees and patients who come to the hospital.

Congratulations, Elwood! We bet he gets paid in sardine and tuna.
