Haunted statue in Surin
UPDATE: The owner has been hosting regular merit making ceremonies, according to a Sanook report dated 5th January 2021. All attendants have received winning lottery numbers.
The most recent set of digits that merit makers received include: 860, 86, 68, 80, 08, 60, 06. We wish all the best to those buying lottery tickets this round.
Thailand has a number of holy statues that are placed in temples, outside of shops, and sometimes, inside homes. One of the less common household sculptures is one of Phu Ruasing, a spiritual hermit that wanders around the woods whilst practising meditation.
The statue is said to bless the inhabitants of houses he’s placed in. However, the Phu Ruasing image in this Surin apartment has caused many tenants to move out, and has converted the apartment complex into a lottery number prediction site.

Haunted statue kicks tenants out
The room is owned and rented out by Mr. Vichian Choogla, who placed the Phu Ruasing image there a long while ago. According to Khaosod, none of the previous tenants occupied this room for long due to strange occurrences that were chalked up to the Phu Ruasing sculpture.

There was a Thai couple who claimed they were driven out by reoccurring paranormal incidents. There’s a Thai superstition that sleeping during the day invites otherworldly souls into your realm; whilst napping one afternoon the husband woke up to see a spirit of long-haired beautiful woman in the room.
Another tenant experienced a flooded bedroom at 3AM. Of course, she ran out of the room frightened and sobbing – tbh we would too – and terminated her lease soon after.
Statue gives lottery numbers
Mr. Choogla invited religious figures to “ghost bust” the apartment, who confirmed that the Phu Ruasing residing in the figure is displeased with other occupants in his space.

Three monks were then invited to perform a merit making ceremony, and along with other locals to pray for good fortune and winning lottery numbers. In Thai belief, “haunted” objects often result in lucky lottery ticket numbers and good luck.

Sacred statues with significance
Thailand has many statues that are said to house spirits. For example, the Khu Man Thong or child-like replicas are said to enshrine the spirits of children and guard Thai households from ill-intentioned individuals. If agitated, the doll will let the homeowners know through subtly moving things around the house or making strange noises. Hopefully, we only encounter benevolent ones.
