theCOMMONS is a community mall that is perfect for weekend hangouts in Thong Lo

Thais love hanging out in malls to avoid the scalding heat that is hot enough to cook eggs without fire. But if you’re like us and want to start looking for alternatives to the bog standard franchise options that are the big malls, then theCOMMONS in Thong Lo is a great alternative.

Here’s what you can expect to find at the community mall.

A mall with rare and tasty food options

Although it’s called a mall, theCOMMONS is more-or-less a trendy food court with options that strike way above the weight the term food court implies.

You can get the usual suspects here: spicy Isaan food, indulgent and greasy burgers, and aromatic coffees. And while these options at theCOMMONS are excellent, you’re going to regret passing up on some of the rarer cuisines that aren’t easy to find in Bangkok.

We recommend checking out Buenazo and Baba Shuk on the mall’s ground floor.

Buenazo by Na Projects is a Peruvian eatery that is best known for its specialty ceviches – a dish comprising chunks of raw fish marinated in citrus with onions. The combination of sour, sweet, and spicy is perfectly at home with the Thai palette, but the cherry on top is definitely that the proceeds also go to good social and sustainability causes.

On the other hand, Baba Shuk serves Mediterranean cuisine that is inspired by the markets of Tel Aviv. So you’re going to not only get the authentic taste of the falafels and hummus, but also the lively atmosphere that goes with it.

Plenty of green and open air to help you relax

The best reason to hang out at theCOMMONS is their food, but a close second is to get away from the heat. It’s also a more guilt-free option than the big malls because most of the mall is open-air and cooled by the abundance of greens.

But if you really need that AC, there’s that option too.

Don’t miss out on all the photo ops though.

Workshops that are perfect for a productive weekend for you and your family

At peak dining hours, theCOMMONS will be very cozy and lively, but there’s other things to do there apart from the food too.

You can find plenty of workshops that are family-friendly to get both you and your kids, if you have any, out of the house. Keep an eye out for what’s happening from their Instagram here. You can get workshops that teach you art as well as cooking.

theCOMMONS is Thong Lo’s common room

Bangkok is filled with huge malls that are packed with standard franchise options. Thong Lo’s theCOMMONS stands out among Bangkok’s malls as a true community option with unique businesses and food that you won’t find in many other places.

On the other hand, if you just want funny stories from Thailand, then check out this man lying inside a coffin to review it, a smart orangutan handing trash to visitors to dispose of it, or this man who decided it would be a great idea to masturbate on his balcony.
