With the increasing number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand, the government has instructed the closure of crowded places including bars, gyms, theatres, entertainment venues, as well as schools and universities from 18th – 31st March 2020.

Zoos are another hotspot for crowds, especially families with elderly members and children. So, the Zoological Park Organisation is closing 6 zoos in the country until 31st March

  • Khao Khew Open Zoo in Chonburi province
  • Chiang Mai Zoo
  • Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo or Korat Zoo
  • Songkhla Zoo
  • Ubon Ratchatani Zoo
  • Khon Kaen Zoo

The Elephant Kingdom in Surin is said to be closed too, according to TNN16

Zoos on the list will be closed for 14 days in order to decrease and control the numbers of COVID-19 infections.

The zoos were also recommended to clean and improve facilities during this break.

Visitor numbers for national parks have also decreased, and the Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department also suggested further reducing the number of visitors, and renovating locations to be fresh and ready to welcome visitors after the COVID-19 situation subsides.

Zoos will be back with better services soon

The zoos will be thoroughly cleaned and renovated during the 2-week period and will be ready to welcome all visitors at the end of March.

Family trips should be postponed until everything gets better, as children and elders fall into sensitive groups vulnerable to the virus, especially in large crowds.

We hope Thailand gets through this situation as soon as possible.

Keep up with the Covid-19 situation in Thailand:
