What to eat at Suvarnabhumi Airport
Most of us know that food stores at airports always charge extra for meals we can get for cheap elsewhere. But no need to worry about that at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. It’s hidden gem is Magic Food Point – a food court that offers cheap Thai-style food you can get below ~USD2.
Cheap food and dessert at Magic Food Point
Magic Food Point is actually a canteen for the airport staff, but it’s also open to the public who know where to find it. It’s located on the 1st floor of the passenger terminal – keep your eyes peeled for Gate 8 to find the “secret” entrance here.
There are over 15 food stalls selling food, drinks, and desserts from just ฿40 (~USD$1.30).
Curry Rice, Seafood Tom Yum Noodles, Som Tum, and desserts
Seafood Tom Yum Noodles (฿70, ~USD2.30) is one of the most popular dishes here. At such an affordable price, you’ll get a big bowl of soup with noodles and seafood like juicy prawns, succulent squid, and a big portion of fish.
The soup had a rich scent of herbs and wasn’t too spicy, so don’t worry if you can’t handle heat.
Next up, we tried some Papaya Salad With Dried Shrimp (฿45, ~USD1.45) from Zeed Zap. The fresh green papaya had a good bite while the dried shrimp added a nice saltiness and chewy texture to the dish. We’d recommend getting this after a long flight as it’s quite a refreshing meal.
If you’re looking for halal options, get some Chicken Curry Rice (฿55). It came with a hearty portion of rice and is bound to fill you up before a flight – better than airplane food! The curry is not too thick and overpowering, and comes with tender chunks of chicken breast, potatoes, and carrots.
Finish your meal with some yummy sweet treats from the dessert store, which offers shaved ice with Thai and Chinese-style toppings.
Lots of toppings to pick from
We got 2 types of shaved ice off the menu – Seng Sim Ee and Sarim (฿50, ~USD1.60).
Seng Sim Ee is a Chinese-style dessert that comes with toppings including sweet lotus root, ginkgo seeds, red beans, pickled plum, and water chestnuts. Everything is soaked in sweet longan juice.
Sarim comes with colourful sweet noodles soaked in coconut milk and syrup. This is a great option for those who prefer creamier desserts.
