Bangkok Turns Ong Ang Canal Near Khao San Road Into New Attraction With Walking Streets

Klong Ong Ang

A couple of years ago, Klong Ong Ang* was just another dirty canal filled with murky and smelly water. Today, it has become a beautiful pedestrian walkway near Khao San Road, with walking streets and beautiful views.

*Klong means canal in Thai

After 5 years of beautification, the canal is now filled with clear water, with both sides decorated with lush plants and modern lightings.

Bangkokians and visitors often come to take a stroll here in the evening. A lot of people also enjoy shopping along Ong Ang Walking Streets, which are held every Friday to Sunday from 4pm to 10pm with various food carts and goodies.

What I especially like about this place is its colourful murals on the walls on both sides of the canals. Apart from looking super cool, the murals here tell diverse stories of the local way of life.

You can learn about the ordinary Bangkokian’s lifestyle from past to present, including Chinese, Indian, and other groups of people who have been making a living in this vibrant city.

Make sure to visit this cool avenue over the upcoming weekend. Or if you would like to explore a new spot for photoshoots, you can also come here on the weekdays when it’s less crowded.
