Thai Government Sets 27 July As A Substitute Day Off For Songkran

Two long holidays this month

Our well-loved water splashing holiday Songkran had first been postponed from April due to COVID-19. But as the situation improves – Thailand has moved into phase 5 of the lockdown and the number of local transmissions remains at zero for over 36 days – the Thai government has officially set 27th July 2020 as a substitute day off for Songkran.

2 four-day holidays this month

Government spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat reported on 30th June 2020 that the Cabinet has made a decision to set 27th July 2020 as a substitute day for Songkran.

Good news is that the substitute day stands in between a weekend (25th-26th July 2020) and His Majesty the King’s birthday (28th July 2020), so this automatically turns the substitute day into a long holiday from 25th-28th July 2020.

Plus, we’re still having a long holiday from 4th-7th July 2020 for Asanha Bucha Day and Lent Day as well. After going through several months of self-isolation, lockdown, and a curfew, July seems to be more relaxing for everyone in Thailand.

However, water splashing events, parades, and other festive activities normally held during Songkran were not mentioned. Stay tuned for updates.
