Mother Roaster Is An Old School BKK Cafe With The Coolest 70-Year-Old Barista Grandma

Mother Roaster cafe near Hua Lamphong MRT

The area around Yaowarat and Charoenkrung Road is home to a big Thai-Chinese community with old-school restaurants and cool cafes and bars hidden at every corner.

A vintage cafe hidden in an old house at Talat Noi named Mother Roaster has been making waves as of late, and for a good reason. This store serves drip coffee created by the coolest 70-year-old barista around, who gives the cafe its wholesome name.

When walking through the area’s small alleys, you might not expect any cafes or even an interesting spot around there. But we’re here to bring you to a hidden gem that cafe hoppers shouldn’t miss.

From Hua Lumphong MRT, map your route to San Chao Rong Kueak alley and look out for an old house with a cute graffiti mural of Mother Roaster on the wall.

The barista behind the counter is Grandma Pin – the 70-year-old barista and the owner of the store.

Iced Latte On The Rocks (฿110) is the signature item served here, with only one ice ball to avoid disrupting the rich taste of the coffee.

If you are tired from walking around, Black Honey Lime (฿80) is a great choice, offering a mix of coffee and lime together with fizzy tonic for a refreshing punch.

A worthy spot for cafe hoppers and Instagrammers

This vintage coffee cafe is Instagrammable all around, with different photo spots a stone’s throw away from the front door. You can get a picture with the several street murals on the walls and rugged car parts peppered along the alley.
