Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam
Some of us love doing things that give us peace; like trekking in the forest, visiting a waterfall, or riding a boat on a huge river. Some might prefer something that boosts their adrenaline, like bungee jumping or scuba-diving.
Whichever itinerary tickles your fancy, the act of creating unforgettable memories is essential to planning a long holiday. Besides escaping from the mundane routines of work, these breaks also serve to revitalise us after stressful periods.
So, if you’re in the market for a place to invest in some ‘me time’, Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam is a large reservoir with boat cruises and waterfalls in Nakhon Nayok.

Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam is the longest concrete dam in Thailand, which is hidden among rolling hills in Nakhon Nayok. The dam was built to be an irrigation system to prevent a water shortage and generate tap water. But as time has passed, the place has become a popular tourist spot for unvarnished scenic views.
As the dam is surrounded by wilderness, a large number of people flock here to have 360° views of the green hills and emerald waters that flow through the landscape. We love that the sweeping views of the steep mountains which face the vast body of water helps free our minds from cluttered thoughts.
Besides the dam, you can take a leisurely boat ride to three famous waterfalls nearby or go for a trek in the forest with your gang of friends.
Boat cruises & three waterfalls
After touring the dam, you can go to the long-tail boat service point at the entrance to hitch a ride to the three waterfalls situated at the back of the nature reserve. Basically, they offer rides at ฿2,000 (~USD60)/trip. If you pick a ride with more than 6 pax, you’ll pay about ฿400 (~USD12)/person. The ride will take about two to three hours to reach them all.
The first waterfall we want to introduce is called ‘Khao Chong Lom Waterfall‘, which looks like a stream that borders the hills, with gushing water. Between both sides of the waterfall lie grassy foothills that could remind you of Grindelwald in Switzerland. Plus, the white mist above the lush trees on the hill is visible occasionally, especially in the winter.
If you keep following the pathway, you will notice that there are plenty of rocks along the waterway. These rocks function as popular props that people tend to snap pics at when they visit the waterfall.
The second spot we’d like to share is Klong Kam Waterfall which boasts a lofty cliff along with a ‘swamp’ of sorts which you can jump right in and play in to cool yourself. However, to get here, do note that you’ll need to walk up farther from the boat’s drop-off point as compared to the first one.
Saving the best for last, we present to you Pha Ngam Ngon Waterfall – a small waterfall that will offer you a bit of adventure because you’ll have to hike up through rocks and a steep thick jungle to reach it. Regardless, we’re sure once you get to the waterfall, you will thank yourself for the endeavour.
