Fermented seafood Thailand
Many Thai dishes – like Som Tum – are spicy and have sour ingredients that further bring out the hotness.
Je Da Poomadong takes Thai seafood salad to another level – instead of fresh ingredients all of the seafood is fermented in fish sauce and chillies. This recipe is one of a kind and many locals queue up to feast on her savory dishes.
In order to gobble down their saucy seafood, the only options are calling the owner and having the orders delivered through courier services like Grab and Go Jek; or get a takeaway right at the shop.
How to order
Her raw seafood items are fermented in fish sauce for two hours, giving the unique relish enough time to seep into the seafood.
Crayfish is the most sold item according to customers’ demands. So we ordered 1g of that ฿40 ( ~USD1.33), 1g of Horse Crab or Poo Ma ฿120 ( ~USD4.00) and 1g of Brown Crab or Poo Talay, 1g of prawns or kung sod ฿100 (~USD 3.33).
The food comes with their zesty homemade seafood sauce, shredded mango, peppermint leaves, and gourd slices – where you mix all of these together with the seafood.
This seafood salad is quite spicy – for those who regularly eat spicy Thai food, it’s totally a must try. The salad tasted like Sashimi but with lime, fish sauce, chilis, and mints. It was so fresh that we could taste the sweetness from each item.
You’re able to order these in 1kg each if you plan on having a feast – horse crab ฿1,200 (~USD40.01), prawns ฿1,000 (~USD33.36), crayfish ฿400 (~USD13.34), and brown crab ฿1,600 (~USD53.37)
Seafood that you shouldn’t miss
Their seafood salad is a must try, especially for Sashimi lovers who are looking for a little zest. If you are unable to finish the ordered items, you can always freeze it for later.
