It’s safe to assume that navy guards have seen many things while out at sea – however one could never anticipate a burning fishing boat with kittens in the middle of the ocean.

Admiral Saai of the Royal Thai Navy reacted to the unexpected site in the most heroic way: he swam from his ship to the flaming vessel and carried each cat to safety.

Resilient cats saved by Thai navy

On 3rd March 2021, the Navy operators spotted a burning fishing boat about 11 km off the shore of Koh Adang, as reported by Naewna.

The boat was apparently very close to sinking – with only the bow above water. Here, 4 kittens were hanging on for dear life.

The cats were brought to shore by the navy operators, and nursed back to health.

Not all heroes wear capes

While Admiral Saai was not wearing a cape, it’s important to note that he was wearing a life vest. This ensured that he would maintain his safety, as well as those of the cats – an important lesson for those embarking on lifesaving missions.
