13 Bangkok Sports Bars, Pubs & Cafes With Free Football Screenings For Football Fans

Bangkok sports bars with football screenings

Football is a big thing in Thailand in terms of a sport to play and an entertaining thing to watch. We, as Thais, really love watching football matches with our mates during our free time on the weekend and enjoy all the fun that the games can offer.

Anyway, watching football at a sports bar is another level of fun. The bar atmosphere and people cheering create an electric atmosphere filled with energy and enthusiasm. The shared experience of highs and lows during the game, coupled with delicious food and drinks, enhances the overall enjoyment of watching football.

We got you, fam. Here are 13 Bangkok sports bars with football match screenings where you and your mates can head to, to revel in supporting your teams.

Is watching football at sports bars a cultural thing in Thailand?

It’s safe to say it’s a thing here for Thais and foreigners. We love how energetic the ambience is when everyone is rooting for their beloved team at the bar. Plus, a big screen along with drinks and food leads to an unforgettable experience of the night.

Being surrounded by fellow fans who share the same passion for the sport creates a sense of community and support. Fans can celebrate victories together, console each other during losses, and engage in friendly banter, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the game.

Who knows? you might be able to make friends at sports bars during the game as we share a common passion for football.

Who are the most supported football teams in Thailand?

Many Thai people are fans of the Premier League which is a league in England. Popular and big teams that have big fanbases in Thailand are Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea. These big teams have long great histories and have shown impressive performances for centuries.

Additionally, we enjoy our Thai league. Like the English Premier League, our league consists of competitive teams such as Buriram United F.C., Bangkok United F.C., BG Pathum United F.C. and so on.

We also have our own national Thai team called ‘Changsuek’. We support our national team with all our hearts and have our fingers crossed that they will make it to the World Cup in the future.

1. The Sportsman — a Bangkok bar for sports lovers

When it comes to sports bars with football screenings in Bangkok – The Sportsman will usually spring to mind. Many sports fans adore this place for its amenities and atmosphere. As its name suggests, the bar exists to satisfy those who fancy watching sports, regardless of the type of sport. You can see many TVs installed around the place with different sports being aired, so you’ll literally get a good view, no matter where you’re seated.

If those TVs behind the bar counter are too small for you, don’t worry. Larger screens are provided on the other side where crowds often gather.

You’d be surprised to see pool tables there too but the bar offers fun activities for revellers, like darts and pool. Besides supporting your home teams onscreen, opt for some friendly in-person competition with your mates during half-time.

Despite being an Irish bar, the place has both Thai and British dishes to munch on. If you’re into Thai food, you might want to try their northeastern Thai dish Larb at ฿199 (~USD5) – a spicy minced meat salad seasoned with fresh herbs. For meat choices, you can choose pork, chicken, or fish.

Alternatively, go with a western dish like Spaghetti Bolognese Beef for ฿295 (~USD8), made with Italian beef sauce heaped over spaghetti and garlic bread on the side.

2. Scruffy Murphy’s Irish Pub — an Irish pub hidden in central Bangkok

The second one on our list is another Irish pub that will teleport you to Ireland without you having to dig out your passport. Scruffy Murphy’s Irish Pub is hidden in plain sight along Soi Sukhumvit 23 in Asok. With its firetruck red exterior, and large black signboard scrawled over in gold Irish-style lettering, it’s impossible to miss if you’ve entered the correct alley.

Generally, this pub exudes authentic Irish vibes, thanks to the vintage decor and mostly expat crowds. But that’s not the only thing we like about this place. Actually, we love the fact that the pub screens major football games every weekend.

Also, they will offer happy hour drinks from 3pm-7pm, which sounds interesting for football fans like us. On Mondays, their Bangers & Mash goes for a special price at ฿275 (~USD7) – which includes a mashed potato topped with sausages, a piece of bacon, and two onion rings.

And importantly – for any football games – a refreshing pint could be a welcome addition to our tables, right? Drink options like ale, whiskey and beer like San Miguel Light or Heineken start from ฿120 (~USD3)/bottle.

3. Mulligan’s Irish Bar — al fresco bar experience along Khaosan Road

Image credit: Mulligans Irish Bar Khaosan Road via Facebook

Okay, we know it’s yet another Irish bar again. But we can’t really leave out this option, especially when it’s based along Khaosan Road. Those of us who spend our weekend nights in the vicinity may have heard cheers erupting from this pub ever since nightlife returned to Bangkok’s streets.

That’s because Mulligan’s Irish Bar is a well-known sports bar in Khaosan where both Thai and foreign football fans flock to hang out every weekend to catch football matches. Look out for its green mosaic bar counter at the front and the distinct ‘Irish Bar‘ sign, that’s when you’ll know you’ve arrived at the right place.

Upon entering the premises, you’ll note that the walls are plastered with posters of football stars like Messi, with the national flags of the Top 16 countries strung up along the bar area. We also love that guests here tend to root for their teams extremely passionately; you can expect loud cheering all the time – especially when a match is ongoing.

Besides football matches, however, another key highlight would be their live music performances. Mulligan’s Irish Bar does have an open stage that hosts plenty of good bands to liven up the mood as well.

As for F&B options, there’s a Buy-1-Get-1-Free promo for drinks from Mondays to Thursdays. We’d say this offer will bring smiles to football fanatics like us, who’re more than happy to bring a friend along to split the bill.

However, if your stomach is in need of something more substantial, we’d recommend their NZ Fillet Steak for ฿589 (~USD16), a tender and succulent steak served with fries and sauce on the side.

Address: 265 Khaosan Rd, Talat Yot, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200

4. Chilling House Cafe — authentic Thai dinners with football screenings

While sports bars or pubs might not be for everyone, Chilling House Cafe could be the chill option – pardon the pun – that you’ve been looking for. Situated at Co-Co Walk Complex in the heart of Bangkok, the cafe is a popular spot to meet up for dinners, by virtue of its spacious dining areas and authentic Thai cuisine. After clocking out of the office, hundreds of folks head straight to this modern loft eatery for post-work hangout sessions.

Despite the vast array of Thai food options – the broad menu is clearly the highlight here – we’d like to highlight the Stir Fried Squid With Chilli for ฿149 (~USD4) as a spicy, savoury snack to munch on while rooting for your team.

While some may prefer grabbing a pint while watching live football matches, try something healthy for a change. Fruit Smoothies go for ฿120 (~USD3), and come in at least 3 refreshing flavours of orange, pineapple and watermelon.

As you can see, the cafe provides plenty of hanging monitors airing football games for customers to enjoy while chowing down on dinner.

FYI, the place can get pretty packed during this time of the month due to the ongoing World Cup, so we think it’d be better if you book a table in advance.

5. Fu Bar Khaosan — a mini bar resembling a retro Chinese teahouse

We won’t blame you if you mistook this for a Chinese restaurant for a second, because we did the same when we first laid eyes on it. Located on Khaosan Road, Fu Bar boasts Chinese-style architecture, leading us to wonder if it’s a bar or a teahouse.

Upon your arrival, expect to see lots of people unwinding with drinks in their hands, reclining in their seats to watch football games playing on the two screens outside the bar. While it’s hard to resist the impulse, passionate football fans like you are probably already thinking of placing an order quickly while still keeping both eyes focused on the game.

The decor inside is an extension of the vintage Chinese theme, with rustic brown chairs and tables as well as classic Chinese motifs on the faux windows. In the left corner of the bar lies a mini stage for Thai bands to perform live shows in front of guests. We’d recommend taking a look upstairs as well on the mezzanine deck, in case you’ll find a better spot.

Fu Bar Khaosan often has monthly promotions for guests, so make sure you check their Facebook page.

For Thai dishes to try, order Thai Noodle Soup Beef at ฿245 (~USD6.72). Also, get a glass of John Jameson for ฿225 (~USD6.17).

6. Baan Puen Ekkamai — hipster container bar with football matches in Ekkamai

Baan Puen Ekkamai or บ้านเพื่อนเอกมัย is a vibrant hangout targeted at energetic youngsters, hidden in Ekkamai Shopping Mall. Covered with glass panels, this bar attracts Gen-Zs and millennials with its quirky designs – expect graffiti art, hanging plants and fairy lights running along its galvanised steel roof. Not gonna lie, we actually like how the narrow space creates a more intimate atmosphere, letting us feel connected to other guests.

Now, imagine how fun it would be to root for the same football team together.

Apart from watching matches, several well-known Thai bands have been known to put up live performances here. If you enjoy Thai pop and indie rock, you won’t be disappointed by the sheer amount of local talent on display.

It’s pretty easy to get here via public transport, as the bar’s located near the Ekkamai BTS Station. After getting off at the station, we recommend getting a motorcycle taxi or tuk-tuk to fetch you here – a journey that’ll take about 10 minutes.

7. Hippie De Bar — a retro bar with mookata sets for Thai football fans

Highly acclaimed by many Khaosan revellers, Hippe De Bar is a noteworthy retro-themed hangout, appealingly decked with multicoloured glowing lights and retro furniture. Standing in front of the bar counter, you’ll spy tons of neatly arranged bottles on the shelves with a wide selection of liquor brands lying in wait. Simply look up the menu written in chalk and take your time to search for your preferred drink.

Instead of sitting at the bar counter if you are a true blue football fan – grab a seat next to this smart TV to ensure you’re at the optimum angle to catch the match in HD.

You’ll also notice little ornaments like hanging stars, warm lights, and importantly a mini Christmas tree in the middle, which adds to the festive mood for a memorable sports experience indeed.

Image credit: Hippie De Bar via Facebook

For mookata addicts, we’re sure you’ll rejoice over what we’re about to share next. Unlike other sports bars, Hippe De Bar hosts the annual mookata festival whenever winter approaches. Thai football fans, we know what you’re thinking. Mookata is truly a distinctly Thai tradition when it comes to watching football matches in Thailand.

If the notion of dipping fresh veggies into piping hot broth appeals to you, order a Mookata Set for ฿499 (~USD14) – which serves two people. However, if you come with a group of 3-4 friends, we recommend a bigger set which costs ฿799 (~USD22).

Address: 46 Khaosan Rd, Talad Yod, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok 10200

4pm–2am, Daily

8. Ladprao Sky Bar — a rooftop bar with skyline views

Ladprao Sky Bar is a notable haunt for Lat Phrao dwellers, thanks to its al fresco dining area on the rooftop. During the match’s half-time break, fans like us can enjoy the uninterrupted views of the skyline of the district.

Image credit: Ladprao Sky Bar by บ้านปู่ via Facebook

Unlike other sports bars, this Thai-style sports bar isn’t as stacked in terms of decor as the other places featured, but it does seem pretty confident in exuding an almost cosy, rustic vibe – along with a dash of Thai hospitality, courtesy of its friendly staff.

As for light snacks to combat the nibbles, we’d recommend the affordable Shrimp in Fish Sauce at ฿109 (~USD3) – fresh shrimp topped with a spicy dressing, served with a signature seafood dip. A glass of Budweiser goes for as low as ฿100 (~USD3) here, the perfect way to round out an eventful night.

9. Roadhouse BBQ — European-style BBQ house near Silom MRT Station

If you’re looking for a place with a more relaxed ambience, Roadhouse BBQ offers something quite different from your typical Bangkok bar or pub. The establishment is an American restaurant themed around a vintage saloon which ironically lets guests enjoy their football matches in a quieter atmosphere, perfect for those who dislike chaotic and crowdy places.

Facing an intersection, you’ll spot the XXL signboard in no time as it’s pretty unmistakable. Once you step foot inside, however, you may think you’ve stumbled into an actual western steakhouse.

Image credit: Roadhouse BBQ Bangkok via Facebook

From the brown brick panels lining the walls, to the teak wooden flooring, the restaurant spares no time in making homages to good ole’ Western saloons and retro 80s steakhouses. Although it’s not a sports bar per se, they do screen football matches regularly here on the large flatscreen televisions located around the premises.

When it comes to what to order for first-time visitors, we would certainly recommend trying their BBQ Pork Ribs, barbecued pork ribs rubbed with BBQ sauce and served with coleslaw. You can get a Half Rack for ฿495 (~USD14) and a Full Rack for ฿750 (~USD21). To complement the dish, a glass of Pinot Grigio at ฿130 (~USD3) would be a good option.

We also love that this restaurant is located close to an MRT station, great for those who want to avoid Bangkok’s notorious rush hour traffic jams.

Address: 942 1-4 Rama IV Rd, Suriya Wong, Banrak, Bangkok 10500

11am-1am, Daily

10. Howler Bar & Grill — riverside restaurant with panoramic views of the Chao Phraya River

If sports bars are your thing, let us present this luxury riverside restaurant, a place that certainly made us go ‘wow’ when we came across it.

Howler Bar & Grill is a sports bar and eatery that boasts an outdoor dining area with sweeping views of the Chao Phraya River. Having dinner while watching the boats chugging along the river as twilight approaches is a wonderful way to unwind after a stressful work week.

Across the river, you’ll also get a clear view of ICONSIAM, a well-known shopping mall in Bangkok. The high-end mall has pretty intricate architecture and appeals to enthusiastic shoppers in the city. If you’ve never been to the mall, we’d say you should drop by after your meal. Not far from the restaurant, you’ll also find a pier providing boat services that’ll take you to the other side.

Rest assured that most football matches will be screened here, as the establishment is styled as a sports bar cum eatery. There also seems to be no shortage of TV screens for guests to relish watching every goal scored in full HD. Do be sure to check the match schedule and secure a table at Howler in advance, however.

For first-time visitors, do try their Salmon Ceviche for ฿390 (~USD10) – a bowl of Peruvian raw salmon tossed in a spicy salad. We wouldn’t discount their drinks either, in particular, the Drunken Berry at ฿360 (~USD10) – a sweet and sour concoction with a hint of tartness from berries.

To celebrate the end of the year, they’re hosting an exciting festival from 11th 20th December 2022. Guests will get to bask in the glow of rooftop sunsets by the Bang Rak Riverview, go on a Saffron Cruise along the Chao Phraya River, and enjoy concerts from leading Thai artists.

Sometimes, we wish we could hop on a plane and fly to England to watch football in a pub, as it would provide the best experience. However, we know that it’s not that easy. Nevertheless, The Londoner Brew Pub can help fulfil our dream to some extent.

The pub comes in three storeys decked in an English style. All these brick walls, wooden bar counter, and shelves full of exotic bottles make you feel as though you were in a pub in London.

When you want to enjoy English football matches, it’s hard to look at somewhere else but this cosy English-style place here.

The dish that caught our attention is a German Combo Platter at ฿1,200 (~USD32.97). It comes with deep-fried German-style pork knuckle & mixed sausages, sauerkraut with bacon bits, sauteed potato and onion with Dijon mustard and a spicy seafood dipping sauce. Just look at its size, you know it’s gonna fill your stomach for the night. We find it a good plate to munch along with friends while watching a football game.

So, don’t forget to consider this pub as one of the worth-visiting Bangkok sports bars with football screenings.
