Japanese Village in Ayutthaya
Everyone knows Ayutthaya for its Thai ancient temples and historic locations, but another old hidden gem here is Japanese Village which was established more than 700 years ago.
If you plan to enjoy Songkran in Ayutthaya, you should also check out this city’s Japanese Village. It will hold a lively festival which will run from 6-7 and 13-14 April with food trucks and live music performances.
What is Japanese Village in Ayutthaya?
Japanese Village is a former community of the Japanese and a historical museum in Ayutthaya that exhibits the history of the Japanese who settled in the city in the past. The place has a garden decked with iconic Japanese things such as Torii gates, Nihon shrines, Sakura, and Koinobori. You’ll experience Japanese vibes everywhere you go in this place.
Once you feel tired from discovering the place, you can head to a cafe close to a canal. The canal appears cosy sitting under a big tree, perfect for chilling and enjoying the greenery.
The place is open from 9.30am-6pm on Mondays to Fridays. The admission for foreigners is just ฿50 (~USD1.38), which is the same price for Thais. Anyway, the event that we are gonna talk about in the next section is free.
Roam around in a kimono in the Japanese Village
From 6-7 and 13-14, Japanese Village will hold an event that adds liveliness to the place. It will be filled with food trucks, live music performances, photogenic spots, and activities to do. Excitingly, you can rent a kimono to wear and roam around the festival.
Admission is free, so if you will be in Ayutthaya during Songkran, you can join this event from 9.30am-6.30pm.
How do I get to Japanese Village?
While many people look forward to fun water activities during Songkran, if you’re not into this water festival and prefer something more relaxed like a food event, the Japanese-themed event here might be a better option for you.
The village is located about 10 minutes away from Ayutthaya’s downtown. You can take a motorcycle taxi or hire a Tuk-tuk to reach it.
