Contactless banking in Thailand

Ever since COVID-19 spread across the world, our lives have taken a turn, with us having to adapt to a “new normal” way of life, from going grocery shopping or even heading to the bank.
Even before the pandemic, coins and paper bills have been known to be rather unhygienic from being passed around, and especially so during this period. With this concern, Thailand’s K-Bank is coming up with new ideas to implement the use of contactless technology for their banking needs.

Kasikorn Business-Technology Group (KBTG) from Kasikorn Bank (K-Bank) plans to launch contactless technology that will allow customers to interact with machines without direct contact.

There are main methods which will be implemented in the near future, including:
- Face Recognition to check-in and check-out at the building or the banks. Plus, it can detect faces with face masks and remind people to keep it on for their own safety.
- Voice Authentication allows us to navigate machines by using our voice
- Touchless Navigation for us to interact with screens without touching them
- ReKeep technology for a paperless digital receipt
Some of these are already used at some branches of K Bank. For example, their rental lockers, named KLox, use a face recognition system to unlock your lockers.
