‘Save Parents’ campaign

Although the Thai government has officially cancelled Songkran holidays, many Thais might still celebrate the festival in the traditional way, including offering food to monks and showering their elderly.
Earlier this week, the Department of Health launched a campaign called “Save Parents” to urge young Thais not to visit or spend time with their elderly family members and risk potentially passing COVID-19 to them during this coming Thai New Year.

Senior citizens are in the most vulnerable group
The campaign was launched to protect the elderly folks who are deemed extra vulnerable to the virus.
The fatality rate for patients aged 70-79 year is 10.5% and for those who are 80 and above is 16.7%, according to the Ministry of Public Health.

Instead of going to see your seniors in person, you can pay respects to them and wish them a happy Songkran through a video call on mobile phones or computers – a simple call would do as well.
