Nation to decide the best krapao
It’s no secret that pad krapao is Thailand’s national dish in all but official name. In Thai, it’s often described as aharn sin kid (อาหารสิ้นคิด), which means go-to dish when nothing else comes to mind. From 25-27 August 2023, there will be a competition to determine the best pad krapao in the nation.
Here’s how you can get a taste and the other things to do at this food extravaganza.

The competition from 25-27 August is the culmination of an ongoing competition that has been raging on for weeks. Chefs from all regions of Thailand have been cooking up their best krapao to earn their spot in the finals.
There’s a total of 12 teams from 6 regions, but only one will be crowned the winner.
What sort of dish will win? Will it be mince or slices of meat? What kind of fried egg would it be? Just how spicy can it get? Only one way to find out.
The competition will take place along the Phadung Krung Kasem canal (คลองผดุงกรุงเกษม) near Hua Lamphong railway station from 3pm til 10pm.
Not complete without a huge street food fair

Of course, we can’t have any big event in Thailand without food to go with it.
You can get an international twist on pad krapao as well since the participating restaurants will have their take on our unofficial national dish. These include a burger version, quesadilla version, a corndog version, and even more.
There will also be a ton of stalls selling food that have made waves on Thai social media as well, so if you’re interested in checking out what’s been buzzing on Thai socials, check that out.
Taste the best krapao, but also other delicious food
You can never go wrong with krapao. But if you want to see just how right you can be with it, pay a visit to the old train station this weekend afternoon.
We promise we won’t tell your local shop that you found a new favourite krapao.
