Visiting the shop, you can expect tables crowded with customers and busy hawkers trying to keep up with their countless orders.

All decked out in green, the storefront of ขนมถั่วแปบสีลม (Khanom Tua Pap Silom) is impossible to miss. The established hawker sells Mung Bean Dumplings for ฿45 (~USD1)/box. For those who’ve never heard of this snack, each dumpling is molded from sticky rice flour and covered with de-husked mung beans and coconut flakes. Let’s move on to yet another affordable snack stall – ขนมถังแตกป้าติ๋ม (Khanom Tang Tak Pa Tim) where you can get some Poor Man’s Pancakes for ฿15 (~USD0.40)/piece. Some of you might be surprised about the name, but honestly, that’s what locals have been calling it as it’s an affordable treat.

Standing in front of this shop, you will see different fillings stuffed inside the pancake – from orange coconut shavings, to raisin studded cream.

As for my personal preference, I’d recommend the one with the green custard mixed with the coconut flakes in the middle. I love the pandan custard’s sweetness that pairs perfectly with the shredded coconut’s texture.

After exploring the market for some time, you might feel tired from the heat in Thailand, so a refreshing bowl of ‘Red Ruby’ might just do the trick.

ทับทิมกรอบวังหลัง (Tub Tim Krob Wang Lang) is a well-known red ruby in coconut milk dessert store that locals who live around there will highly recommend. The store that’s rich in heritage is located in a typical shophouse in Wang Lang. Lookout for the striking purple overtones of the storefront, and we believe you’ll have no difficulty spotting it when you reach as it stands out from the other shophouses around there.

8. อำนวยไอศครีมเฮ้าส์ — old school ice cream sundaes

We know that this isn’t exactly a Thai dessert, but we firmly believe it’s worth-mentioning in this list due to its reputation.

อำนวยไอศครีมเฮ้าส์ (Amnuay Ice Cream House) is an ice cream shop with various ice cream items for dessert lovers that’s located in Soi 8, Wang Lang.

Inside the store, there are many tables and chairs that customers can chill at while awaiting their ice cream. Looking around, you’ll get that nostalgic, retro vibe and atmosphere that’s great for a chit-chat with friends.

When you get inside, you can expect to see a clerk or two standing behind the freezers, ready to greet you warmly. We’d also suggest peeking into the freezers to see what looks tasty in there.

Just in case you’re still unsure about what to get, we’d recommend their Banana Split for ฿70 (~USD1.90) served with three scoops of ice cream with along half a banana on both sides. Really, this is our all-time favourite and you probably can’t go wrong with this nostalgic combination. The largest selling point is that the price is way more affordable than compared to many other more modern ice cream parlors.

9. วังหลังเบเกอรี่ —  homemade bread stuffed with over 50 fillings

Needless to say, bakers can be found almost anywhere in the country. But what we like about วังหลังเบเกอรี่ (Wang Lang Bakery) is their variety of rich fillings stuffed in every loaf.

First opened in 1973, Wang Lang Bakery has built up a considerable reputation in the area by serving bread with a choice of more than 50 fillings. So don’t be too shook if the first thing you see when you get here is a large crowd of customers lining up for bread and snacks. We’d recommend coming early to get your choice of bread, as some types of filling may run out of stock due to their popularity.

Hopefully, you’ll have a chance to come here and buy a loaf for yourself soon. We bet you’ll turn wide-eyed once you glimpse at the portion of fillings inside. As for the price, one piece of bread — like the one in the pic shown above — starts at ฿55 (~USD1). But as servings are pretty huge, we’re sure just a single loaf of bread could already get you full for hours.
