One of the group members, Mr Zhang Xiao Zhao, 44, said that he and his friends travelled all the way from Chengdu to ask Buddha Sothon to clear the COVID-19 virus in mainland China.

Mr Zhang added that he believes in Buddha because he came here years ago to ask for a child and he got one after going back.

At the Buddha Sothon Temple, it is a common practice for visitors to offer the Buddha Sothon statue with eggs, mostly boiled, in exchange for wishes and blessings.

Ms Jitsinee Pantong, a local egg seller, said she got an order of 200,000 eggs from the Chinese group last week. She was paid a total of ฿400,000 (~USD12,825) in cash. She also said she’d never seen anyone offering this many eggs before.

Whether it works or not, this offering has already given the group some peace of mind and it’s something we’ll need in the time like this.
