No Plans For Nationwide Lockdown Or Curfews In Thailand, Confirms National Security Council

No lockdown in Thailand for now

The past couple months have been reminiscent of early 2020: quickly rising Covid-19 case numbers, increasing safety measures, and emergency preparedness. The only thing missing is a nationwide lockdown.

While the pandemic situation in Thailand does not seem to be improving at an ideal rate, government officials confirmed that there are no plans to implement a lockdown throughout Thailand just yet.

Here’s a look into the government’s current plan.

Recent Covid-19 updates in Thailand:

Lockdown to be a “last resort”

Government officials stressed on 6th May 2021 that a nationwide lockdown is considered a “last resort” option at the moment.

General Natthaphon Nakaphanich, Secretary-General of the National Security Council, further remarked that extending the duration of six provinces’ “dark red” status will also be evaluated on 14th May, reported Workpoint TODAY.

Currently, officials appear to be focusing on mass vaccination and the creation of field hospitals as primary methods for combating the virus.

Economic uncertainty continues

Members of the private sector, including airline operators, have been urging the government to implement stricter measures to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Due to the administration’s decision to pursue other measures, the public has been speculating over recent weeks that financial troubles may be behind their recommendations.

However, just yesterday, the government announced the initial approval of allocating ฿225 Billion (~USD7 billion) for the extension of existing Covid-19 stimulus packages

Stay tuned for better times

Whilst the situation in Thailand does not appear to be improving soon, it’s important to remember that the nation has overcome the virus before. In addition to continuing to follow hygiene protocols, it’s vital to know that this won’t last forever. Maintaining hope during hard times is crucial towards preventing your mental and physical health from suffering.
