10 Thai Provinces May Waive Tourist Quarantines On 1 Oct, Minister Sets Hopeful Target

No quarantines in 10 Thai provinces, says minister

Since Thailand has reopened its borders to international tourists, many have had to grapple with the mandatory 14-day quarantine. However, Thailand has been taking slow steps towards reducing the self-isolation period and even moving towards getting rid of it altogether.

In addition to Phuket being projected to open to vaccinated tourists in July, the government is planning to waive the quarantine period for 10 other provinces in Thailand starting this October.

Here’s what we know so far, according to the Tourism and Sports Minister’s hopeful target.

More on Thailand’s reopening:

10 Thai provinces that may not require quarantines

International arrivals will not have to undergo quarantine when visiting these ten provinces come October, said the Minister of Tourism and Sports, as per the National News Bureau of Thailand.

Below is a list of provinces where tourists can enter without quarantine:

  1. Bangkok
  2. Phuket
  3. Krabi
  4. Chiang Mai
  5. Surat Thani
  6. Petchaburi
  7. Buriram
  8. Chonburi
  9. Prachuab Khiri Khan
  10. Phang Nga

The minister made this statement earlier this week during a government meeting discussing the national budget.

Earlier this year, the administration stated their plans to completely reopen Thailand’s borders in January 2022, with Phuket being the first province to remove the quarantine requirement in July.

Return of international tourism

With tourism making up the bulk of Thailand’s revenue, a large portion of the population is dependent on profits gained from international visitors. The reopening of the country is bound to jumpstart their livelihoods and aid the national economy’s recovery, as well.

Let’s hope that the reopening comes sooner rather than later.
